TransAlta has an exciting and challenging opportunity for 2 nd Class Power Engineers interested in using their knowledge and experience to lead a team of Power Engineers. As a Shift Supervisor with us you will develop and maintain a high standard of Operations at the plant by actively training, coaching and supervising a functional group of Power Engineers. You will require a strong focus on safety and operational proficiency.

There are positions available at our Keephills 3, Keephills 1/2 and Sundance Plant facilities all located approximately 1 hour west of Edmonton, Alberta. This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing requirements.

Responsibilities:
Direct the operating crew to safely operate a power plant and associated equipment in accordance with established procedures and practices.

Troubleshoot operational problems and initiate maintenance requests.

Implement safety programs and lead operating crew members to adopt safe work practices.

Ensure the plant and associated equipment are operated in compliance with applicable regulations.

Manage the performance of operating crew members.

Help operating crew members complete their qualifications.

Exercise sound judgment and take timely actions as needed to ensure personnel safety, to remain in compliance with regulations and to prevent equipment damage.

Maintain an overall awareness of the status of the plant and associated equipment.

Assess risks posed by identified problems and ensure management and other plant personnel are made aware of those risks.

Perform other duties related to operations including assisting with maintenance planning and coordination, training of operators, investigating loss events, and developing and reviewing procedures.

Schedule operating crew personnel.

Complete required logs and reports.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications:
Valid Alberta First or Second Class Power Engineering Certificate of Competency.

Demonstrated knowledge and skill in the operation of thermal generating stations and in the related equipment, systems and overall work processes.

Demonstrated knowledge of occupational hazards and safety leadership.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Demonstrated strong leadership abilities.

Ability to work rotating 12 hour shifts and to meet the physical demands of the job, including stairs, entry into confined spaces, and donning and use of appropriate PPE.

Knowledge of distributed control systems (DCS) would be an asset
