ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Director, Marketing & Communications
is responsible for overseeing the development of a comprehensive marketing and communications program designed to promote Baycrest locally, nationally, and internationally as the leader in brain and aging. This role will lead the establishment of key benchmarks and other forms of measurement to continually evaluate and improve upon both broad-based and targeted communications strategies.
The Director
, Marketing & Communications
builds and fosters strong working relationships with key Baycrest partners and other external stakeholders, to ensure that the organization is widely and positively recognized for its academic health sciences achievements. He/she consults widely to develop strategies and provide guidance and advice to Baycrest leadership on broad matters related to external relations, communications, and the messaging relating to the implementation of the strategic plan. The person also leads the development of strategic crisis communications.
The incumbent directly manages the staff and the quality and efficiency of work, ensuring the structure and duties are meeting operational objectives in the most effective way.
The
Director, Marketing and Communications will be responsible for:

Providing strategic communications counsel to the Vice-President, Stakeholder Relations & Business Development on all internal and external communication matters.
·
Overseeing the development and management of the annual Communications and Marketing plans and corresponding budget.
·
Directing the development and management of the internal communications program for staff, delivered through a variety of channels, including digital and print materials, special events, etc.
·
Overseeing the team responsible for the development of communications materials and marketing efforts.
·
Assisting in the development of crisis communications plans to support the organization’s business continuity plans and reputation management.
·
Hiring, coaching and developing Communications and Marketing staff.
·
Identifying and developing team goals and objectives, and managing and directing the activities of the team.
·
Ensuring quality control and accuracy for internal and external communications.
·
Providing creative direction to the teams on all communications materials, both print and online.
·
Maintaining responsibility for the work of vendors hired on a contract basis, such as designers, writers, printers, exhibit specialists, photographers, and electronic communications suppliers
·
Establishing and maintaining procedures, performance standards, and quality assurance measurements pertaining to all Communications and Marketing initiatives.
·
Working collaboratively with heads of other divisions to meet their communications and marketing needs.
·
Promoting a collaborative working relationship within organization where cross-divisional roles are appreciated and valued, to ensure effective and efficient operations.
Candidate Qualifications include:

University degree or community college diploma in journalism, communications, public relations or other related program of study.
·
Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in a comparable position.
·
Exceptional writing skills.
·
Excellent knowledge of communications principles, practices, and tactics
·
Excellent communications planning and policy formulation skills
·
Excellent editorial, creative and public relations judgment.
·
Excellent public speaking and interpersonal skills.
·
Demonstrated ability to provide communications counsel to senior management.
·
Demonstrated ability to develop and manage a variety of complex communications projects and materials.
·
Demonstrated ability to develop communications strategies and manage priorities.
·
Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and budgets.
·
Demonstrated ability to develop staff to their full potential and build teams.
·
Proven ability to manage issues and crises.

Proven ability to handle media relations.
