Hotel Overview:
Centrally located in downtown Calgary, The Fairmont Palliser is the city’s premier, landmark hotel. With 407 elegantly appointed guest rooms, and the recent completion of an extensive renovation project, The Fairmont Palliser is truly the place to be.

Summary of Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Banquet Manager, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

Consistently offer professional, friendly and engaging service

Lead and supervise the Banquet team in all aspects of the department and ensure service standards are followed

Handle guest concerns and react quickly and professionally

Ensures the effective utilization and productivity of all employees

Ensures delivery of exceptional service through focus on training, problem resolution, performance management, employee satisfaction and analysis of customer feedback and trends

Ensures quality standards are met, labour expenses are controlled and distinctive service is provided

Leads monthly communication meetings including follow-up

Maintains a close and effective working relationship with all supporting departments

Ensures emergency procedures and systems are current and proactive

Maximizes new technology to improve service levels and productivity

Establishes and effectively communicates performance standards

Leads and monitors pre-function meetings, including service details and departmental updates

Assumes responsibility for all equipment, inventories, supplies, furniture and fixtures assigned to the Banquet Department

Train Colleagues and supervisors in the absence of a trainer

Balance operational, administrative and Colleague needs

Participates in hotel leadership meetings as appropriate

Review all banquet event orders to ensure proper set-ups are in place

Work with the Conference Services & Catering department to ensure that revenues and guest satisfaction levels are maximized

Ensure proper staffing and scheduling of all Banquet Colleagues in accordance to productivity guidelines

Follow outlet policies, procedures and service standards

Develops and monitors effective control practices

Follow all safety and sanitation policies when handling food and beverage as well as responsible beverage service

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Previous leadership experience in Food & Beverage required

Computer literate in Microsoft Window applications required

University/College degree in a related discipline preferred

Excellent communication and organizational skills

Strong interpersonal and problem solving abilities

Highly responsible & reliable

Ability to work well under pressure in a fast paced environment

Ability to work cohesively as part of a team

Ability to focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times

General knowledge of Fairmont Hotels & Resorts systems, standards, policies and procedures an asset

Demonstrates strong organizational and teambuilding skills

Experience in a unionized setting an asset

Experience with off premise and kosher functions an asset

Working knowledge of Microsoft office and Property Manager

Proserve certification
