Reporting to and under the general supervision of the City Solicitor, acts as solicitor, counsel and advisor to The Corporation of the City of London in legal matters generally of average or above average complexity, requiring an appropriate degree of experience, skill and competence.

Work Performed
Acts as solicitor, counsel and advisor, or assists more senior counsel, in all aspects of one or more of the following areas of the practice of law, as assigned by the City Solicitor. Civil Litigation (including to negligence and other torts, insurance law and risk management, construction liens and expropriation), Administrative law (including appearances before administrative tribunals, judicial review and appeals), Municipal law (including council procedure, municipal finance, assessment and taxation, public authorities and officers, public utilities, municipal elections, licensing and regulatory matters, freedom of information and protection of privacy, and social welfare), Land use planning (including, official plans, zoning, site plan and development, heritage planning and protection) Corporate Commercial law and Business law (including corporations with and without share capital, banking and finance, bankruptcy and insolvency, secured transactions, copyright, trade marks and protection of intellectual property, contracts, procurement ), Real estate and land development (including purchases, sales, leases, licences, easements, expropriations, mortgages, secured transactions, landlord and tenant, highways and streets, subdivision and development, planning and zoning), Environmental law, Municipal law enforcement and provincial offences, Labour Relations, Employment and Human Rights (including collective agreements, discipline and discharge, arbitration, judicial reviews, Workplace Safety and Insurance Board and Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal, and Human Rights Tribunal Hearings and employment law, in general). Discharges such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the City Solicitor. Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor and membership in good standing in the Law Society of Upper Canada.

Specialized Training and Licenses
Skills and abilitiesin the followingareas are necessary: Four to five years, preferably in municipal law.
