Rehabilitation Specialist - One Year Contract - British Columbia

Under the direction of the Health Care Manager, the Rehabilitation Specialist is responsible for providing early intervention and assistance to employees who are absent from work during the Qualifying Period for LTD Benefits. Responsibilities include:
- Developing strategies aimed at shortening the duration of disability periods of insureds under
group insurance contracts.
- Reviewing active cases for medical and rehabilitation action plans and recommend actions to facilitate
a prompt return to health and to prepare a successful return to work for insureds.
- Taking charge of cases requiring specialized activities, and plan strategy for them.
- Liaise with the in-house and external persons involved in disability cases and their review.
- Coordinating and promptly obtaining diagnosis and medical reports and validation of medical
treatment plans.
- Negotiation of conditions for the client's return to work (progressive or other) with the client,
their supervisor, union representation, and attending physician, as applicable.
- Assisting the claims examiners with their review of difficult cases, recommending actions or solutions,
or taking charge of the case if circumstances are appropriate.
- Periodically analyzing each active case, and revise action plans as necessary, recommending changes
to disability management strategies and procedures when necessary.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education or equivalent and experience in a Group Disability environment.
- Travel will be required.
- Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical, problem solving, decision making, and negotiation skills.
- Well developed organizational and time management skills.
- Capable of multi-tasking, flexible, adaptable and creative.
- Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Well developed PC skills using Word and Excel.
- Skilled in project management and team leading.
- Eligible for CCRC or ARP designation.

This position is 'home based'.
