Come work in the great outdoors as a Parks Ranger in North America's largest urban park! Known as the "Ribbon of Green", the river valley is a 48-kilometer long city stretch that has over 20 major parks and attractions. The Park Ranger Unit provides proactive and innovative education and enforcement for parkland, its people and ecology. Expand your interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills by interacting with a variety of individuals from all walks of life while you ensure a safe and enjoyable recreational space for the citizens of Edmonton and do your part to maintain healthy co-existence between the valley's plants and wildlife, and the ten million people that visit every year. Specific responsibilities include:
Enforcement/Compliance:
Receiving complaints regarding violations of City bylaws, conducting investigations to determine their validity, and issuing verbal or written warnings or tickets
Conducting routine park patrol and investigative assignments
Interpreting legislation and bylaws to the public, providing assistance in the prosecution of bylaw or statute breeches, and preparing court documents
Resource Management, Programs and Public Education:
Coordinating, developing, and implementing actions to protect the bio-diversity of parkland
Providing resource management to ensure sustainable use of parkland
Assisting with the development of parks brochures, informational presentations, letters, and reports for internal and external customers
Developing and implementing special events
Conducting media interviews
Administrative/Other Functions:
Writing reports, vehicle inspections, and activity logs
Performing related work as required
Participating in parks maintenance services as required
Ensuring the protection, condition, and safety of buildings and amenities on City parkland

Qualifications
:
Completion of a 2 year technical diploma in resource or parks management, environmental sciences, conservation enforcement or policing & security
Minimum of 1 year of experience in parks management, enforcement or security
Possession of a valid Class 5 Driver's Licence recognized by the
Operator Licensing and Vehicle Control Regulation
, Alta. Reg. 320/2002, Standard First Aid Certificate, CPR Certificate, and AED Certificate
Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and SAP
Completion of Verbal Judo, Search & Rescue Fundamentals, and Pressure Point Control Tactics (PPCT) Training is an asset
Possession of Community Peace Officer Level I designation is considered an asset
Possession of Pleasure Craft Operators licence (boat) is an asset
Extensive knowledge of municipal legislation, investigative practices and customer service standards; must be able to effectively communicate interpretations of legislation
Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers
Possession of excellent written and verbal communication skills
Knowledge and practical application of dealing with difficult persons
Strong analytical, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills
Ability to prepare and deliver presentations to groups, eg. Educational & Trail Campaigns
Ability to work in physically demanding and sometimes dangerous environments
An original enhanced Police Information Check (background check on applicant, family and close associates) that is satisfactory to the employer will be required before starting in the position. Please note, this may take up to 3 weeks to process.
As a condition of employment, successful candidates will be required to:
Obtain Provincial Community Peace Officer I designation
Be sworn as a Municipal Bylaw Officer
Pass the Physical Abilities Readiness Evaluation (P.A.R.E.) physical fitness test
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, shift work between 6:00am - 3:00am, including weekends
Salary Range
:
10M, Salary Grade: 073, $31.722 - $32.793 (Hourly), $66,235.540 - $68,471.7800 (Annually). The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton
