We are looking for a General Accountant based
in our Markham, ON or Woodstock, NB office location. The role of
General Accountant is a hands-on position, responsible for
assisting in the month end closing process, reconciliation of
balance sheet accounts and creating journal entries. The
individual should be familiar with International Financial
Reporting Standards (IFRS) or Generally Accepted Accounting
Concepts, Practices and Procedures. A heavy reliance on
experience and judgment will be required for efficient planning and
to accomplish goals.
Key responsibilities include:
Responsible for daily/monthly banking transactions and
reconciliation of all bank accounts. This includes initiation
of account transfers, wire payments, daily reconciliations of main
bank accounts and reporting of cash position, daily review and
actioning of positive pay reports.
Responsible for company insurance policy administration
including maintaining accurate records for property and fleet
policies, communication with insurance broker for claims,
certification of insurance requests and changes to policies when
required. Completion of renewal applications for all policies
and ensuring updated registrations and insurance for all fleet
vehicles.
Lease administration and accounting for computer, equipment and
vehicle leases; responsible for monthly reporting, payments and
accounting entries.
Accounting for prepaid expenses including monthly balance sheet
reconciliations.
Responsible for record retention/archiving policy and
administration for financial records.
Other accounting responsibilities as required.
The ideal candidate will possess:
Completion of a post-secondary degree in a related field (i.e.
Business, Accounting, etc.)
3-5 years of business accounting with experience using ERP
financial systems and generating reports
Working towards obtaining a professional accounting designation
would be an asset (i.e. CGA, CMA)
Experience working in a fast growth organization; telecom
experience an asset
Solid understanding of IFRS or GAAP
Strong attention to detail and good analytical skills; aptitude
in dealing with numbers
Strong team leadership skills
Flexible approach to work with ensured closure of
tasks.
Expert skill level in MS Office - Excel
SAP experience is an asset
