With some independent action, assist in the coordination and maintenance of the Municipal Public Transit vehicles, providing short/long term planning and directing contractors to ensure cost, quality and quantity for all municipal transit vehicles, preventative maintenance and asset management in accordance with Municipal policies and Provincial regulations.

Ensure AVL installs, maintenance, warranty and day to day reports are maintained, information compiled to support performance measures and delivery of service.

Ensure all Municipal Transit vehicles are operated in a safe efficient manner and the Municipal safety programs are strictly adhered to.

Ensure that the Municipal Fleet Vehicle Repair Contractor provides necessary and quality mechanical repairs.

Qualifications

• Alberta or Interprovincial Journeyman Certification as Heavy Duty

Mechanic.

• Certificates appropriate to transit operations an asset.
• Proven experience with computers, MS Word, MS Excel, Project

Management Systems and the ability to learn and maintain a

Computerized Maintenance Management Systems is required.

• Three (3) years experience as a Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic.
• Experience working in Transit Operations an asset.

You will possess the following:

• Valid Alberta class Three (3) Driver’s License with air brake

endorsement and clean driver’s abstract.

• Effective verbal and written communication.
• Strong time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrate skills in computer applications (word processing,

spreadsheets, e-mail).

• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to develop an effective work environment.
• Ability to assist with staff by planning, prioritizing, and directing the

work of staff.

• Demonstrated problem solving, and decision-making skills.
• Knowledge of OH&S regulations and ability to implement safe work

practices.

• Ability to work outside in all weather conditions and in an unsanitary

environment.

• Ability to perform duties as outlined on the Physical Demand

Analysis (PDA) for the position.
