A Wealth of Opportunity awaits you at DundeeWealth You will have the opportunity to... *UNIX System Administrator performs system administration such as setting up new servers, managing user accounts, installation and maintenance of software, backup and recovery of systems, and system activity monitoring;
- In this role, you will provides technical advice to the application teams and end users and assists in performing system administration tasks.
Key Responsibilities: *Configures new servers and verifies the condition of equipment ordered;
- Installs all optional hardware components and determines the best method for setting up the console;
- Collaborates with the network support team to select and configure the most appropriate network(s) on which the server will operate;
- Plans and configures the use of the internal storage arrays of the server depending on the applications, databases and the configuration of the server itself;
- Installs the operating system and proactive recommended patches after installation of the server;
- Installs and configures Apache and Tomcat on Unix and Linux based systems;
- Collaborates with Web development team to roll out new releases and troubleshoot issues as required;
- Develops new scripts and creates procedures for the server;
- Plans and configures the basic distribution of the disks for file systems, performs disk partitioning and allocates and monitors space usage;
- Develops plans and scripts for backups and maintains file systems in a consistent state;
- Creates user login IDs and passwords and configures the user environment as required;
- Installs and upgrades Unix and Linux operating systems and third party software as required by the business;
- Develops and implements Unix based scripts and applies proactive and reactive system patching for system operating system, applications and third party software;
- Ensures license agreements are faithfully executed for Unix and Linux servers;
- Obtains, installs and removes patches and patch clusters when required;
- Manages disaster recovery strategies, ensures reliable backups are performed, and restores, posts and removes files as needed;
- Manages user access and sets up startup scripts with appropriate permissions;
- Configures software for Solaris printers, administers print files and requests, and provides solutions to printing problems/issues;
- Operates and manages third party software to print special forms/printings;
- Maintains a monitoring system for production and development servers and monitors system logs and activity on servers;
- Provides twenty-four hour on call technical support for production servers;
- Maintains hardware peripheral equipment and contacts vendors for problem resolution;
- Coordinates with network support team in finding solutions to network issues/problems that arise; and
- Creates documentation for system administration procedures for future use.
Skills and Experience: *Minimum of five to seven years’ experience in a Unix (Sun Solaris) and Linux technical environment;
- Ability to install, maintain, modify and upgrade Sun servers with Solaris;
- University degree or certificate in a technical field;
- Knowledge of data security and disaster recovery systems and procedures;
- Knowledge of network systems, protocols and applications;
- Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise;
- Knowledge of licensure regulations and requirements;
- Ability to plan, implement, test and troubleshoot system software;
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical capabilities;
- Ability to work in a deadline driven, fast-paced environment;
- Excellent decision-making and communication skills;
- Good technical writing skills;
- Team-oriented and customer focused; and
- Demonstrates leadership and cooperation;
