Lead and coordinate working groups focussed on key policy area and emerging issues
Provide policy analysis, synthesis and research to support initiatives that reflect the policies and priorities of the Party, Leader and Caucus
Lead and coordinate working groups focussed on key policy area and emerging issues
Work closely with caucus critics in assigned policy fields to assist with monitoring, collaboration and strategic analysis of government initiatives, as well as in the private and civil society sectors
Assist with committee participation and advise on drafting model legislation
Provide policy advice and briefings to senior staff, Leader and Caucus in assigned policy fields, as required
Synthesize and communicate research and policy findings and responses to policy makers, stakeholders and non-governmental organizations
Liaise and collaborate with the House Leader’s and Whip’s offices on House and committee strategy, implementation and analysis
Liaise with civil society actors, allied groups, leading private sector organizations, experts, think-tanks and Party officials for input on policy and emerging issues
Support Leader and Caucus in the development of campaigns on priority issues
Foster collaboration between MP staff, MPs, and Leader’s Office staff in key issue areas
Attend committee and other meetings from time to time, as directed
Other duties as required
Qualifications
Master’s degree or equivalent experience
Minimum of 5 years experience in a research or policy analysis role
Experience working in a research or policy capacity in the government/private sector/NGO/trade union/non-profit sectors, or working for an elected representative
Strong knowledge of Canadian politics, the legislative process and of Canadian experts and institutional networks
Experience synthesizing complex concepts and information to effectively communicate to non-academic audiences
Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal)
Strong political and strategic skills and understanding
Demonstrated experience taking initiative or playing a leadership role
Ability to meet deadlines and work productively under pressure
Excellent computer skills
Ability to work well in a team environment
Sound knowledge of the Federal NDP, its policies, programme and structure
Economic or quantitative analysis skills an asset
Expertise and experience working in key policy areas an asset
Bilingualism required
Salary
Annual Salary: $54,869
The salary levels are subject to clauses 12 and 21 of the collective agreement
