278 million people suffer from disabling hearing loss, but hearing care remains unaffordable for the vast majority of the world’s population. World Wide Hearing is a Montreal-based NGO that has developed Hearing Express , an innovative model to provide affordable, high-quality hearing aids to children and youth in developing countries. We enable local people to deliver hearing care in their communities using point-of-care hearing tests and self-programmable hearing aids. Hearing Express is faster and less expensive than traditional audiology, and can be deployed even in the remotest regions to reach the poorest individuals. Our goal is to improve quality of life for children with hearing loss, enabling them to go to school and grow up happy, healthy, and productive. In 2012 we will launch the pilot phase of Hearing Express in Jordan and we plan to scale to several other countries in the years that follow. Website: www.wwhearing.org.
World Wide Hearing is hiring a Country Director to oversee the pilot launch of Hearing Express for one year. We are seeking someone who can accomplish the following:
Create a strategic vision:This position does not involve managing an existing operation—we are seeking an entrepreneur who can create an operation from scratch with guidance from the head office in Montreal. This involves a lot of strategic flexibility and independence. We are also seeking someone who is hands-on and will spend time in the field in order to craft strategies that will benefit our audio-technicians and the children they help. The Country Director will ensure annual performance goals are set, reviewed quarterly, and achieved. He or she will create processes to incorporate staff feedback and data-driven recommendations into strategic decision-making.
Oversee and develop staff:Our Country Director will have to oversee a team of two people as well as a group of audio-technicians, and more importantly, invest time in developing the staff he or she supervises.
External and internal relations:We are seeking someone who will be a strong communicator, able to maintain key external relationships and ensure that all stakeholders know everything necessary to complete their objectives.
We are seeking professionals with 4 to 8+ years of work experience, and a demonstrated long-term passion for international development. They will serve in a position that combines both field and management experience. Candidates with an MBA or equivalent experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

Strong work experiences. We are seeking an entrepreneur who has previously grown an operation from scratch in a developing nation. We want someone who wants to go back to scratch, and do it again, instead of managing a large existing operation.
Top-performing undergraduate and/or MBA background.
A willingness to commit to living in urban and rural areas of Jordan for at least one year. The candidate should have at least one year demonstrated experience working in the developing world.
Language: fluent English required. Arabic strongly encouraged.
Preferred Start Date: Q4 2012
Compensation: Modest to start, with potential to grow within the organization.
