The Operations Supervisor manages and motivates all CRPs (Drivers) in delivering superior customer service and ensuring compliance to all corporate and regulatory guidelines, codes, regulations and legislation, federally and provincially. Ensures appropriate training is provided to all Drivers in all aspects of safety and operational procedures and they have access to appropriate tools and equipment to uphold a positive corporate image for its reputations and service excellence. Works with all Drivers to ensure the service is provided in a productive and efficient manner.
Responsibilities
What you will do:
- Coordinate and schedule the rotation of corporate vehicles throughout the assigned areas, as business volume requires. Ongoing review of routes for corporate units to improve efficiency and utilization.
- Schedule shifts to ensure customers obtain superior service while adhering to Hours of Service legislation.
- Respond to enquiries/requests from regional offices concerning such areas as data entry, fuel controls, collections and operations/compliance.
- Provide technical and mechanical repair and assistance 24/7 on call, and day-to-day problem solving and emergency response. Assist in servicing existing or new clients if required and liaise with operations staff and CRP’s to improve client service and route efficiency.
- Manage, coordinate and report all emergency situations by determining nature of the incident, ensuring the safety and security of the truck and load, contacting emergency service, and organizing repairs and replacement equipment.
- Schedule the maintenance of tanks and chassis as per the company’s PM Program to minimize vehicle breakdowns and keep repair costs to a minimum, without compromising customer service standards. Coordinate strategic location of all backup equipment in the event of equipment breakdown.
- Conduct Certified Refuelling Professional (CRP) assessments on a scheduled and unannounced basis to ensure operators are working in accordance with internal, provincial, and federal safety standards and regulations.
- Supervises staff including: staff coaching, evaluations, progressive discipline, hiring and terminations.
- Recommend any required changes in operating procedures to the Operation Manager.
- Act as the primary operations contact for customers, you will approve delivery within the area of accountability and assign the delivery personnel. Interact with customers regarding service issues and rectifies on a timely basis.
Requirements
What you would bring:
Education Requirements: Preferred post secondary education in logistics program OR a combination of education and relevant work experience. Class 1 License with clean 3 year abstract. Obtain all necessary certifications and accreditations as required. Professional training in operating a commercial vehicle. Training in Emergency Spill Response, Safety and Compliance. Intermediate Microsoft Office Skills
Work Experience: Experience in an environment where there is minimal supervision. Two years previous management/supervisory experience required. Have worked as an AZ/DZ or Class 1/3 Driver, dispatch experience also an asset. Past experience providing superb customer service preferably in the transportation industry. Understanding of fleet operations and maintenance programs required.
Skills/Abilities Required: Able to work all shifts and handle physically demanding work. Willing to work extended, flexible hours, and be accessible 24/7 for emergency situations. Capable of driving up to 250 km on a daily basis, at times in heavy traffic and capable of lifting up to 100 lbs. Previous refuelling experience a strong asset.
Excellent interpersonal, communication skills, demonstrates honesty and integrity in all relationships. A self-manager, with good problem solving skills; ability to multi task, with a sense of urgency to make important decision quickly and effectively. Attention to detail, while completing monthly reports accurately within time restrictions. Ability to supervise, lead and coach employees effectively, while providing support and motivation for their success. Maintain professionalism in stressful situations, ability to multi-task, excellent time management skills and ability to work in a fast paced environment. Computer skills required.
