Diavik Diamond Mines (DDMI) owns Rio Tinto's interest in and manages the unincorporated Diavik diamonds joint venture in the Northwest Territories of Canada. Mining takes place in the lake bed at Lac de Gras with water held back by a dike made of rock fill. With approximately 800 employees, Diavik is instrumental in making Canada the world's third largest diamond producer by value. Reporting to the Supervisor, Mobile UG, the Maintainer, Welder will work on a two (2) weeks on / two (2) weeks off rotational basis at the Lac de Gras mine site. The Welder / Fitter is responsible for performing planned and breakdown maintenance to all mobile and stationary equipment in a safe, environmentally friendly and cost-effective manner to ensure that equipment availability is maximized. The Welder / Fitter is responsible to work in all areas as directed by the Underground Mobile Maintenance Supervisor.
The Maintainer, Welder responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Install new or overhauled equipment in a timely manner according to manufacturer's recommendations.
Fabricate, overhaul, or modify parts of equipment (e.g., cut, shape, weld) within time frames outlined in the maintenance schedule without compromising the integrity of the equipment.
Keep work areas and equipment clean and free of safety hazards on a continuous basis and conduct safety audits as per company policy.
Perform preventative maintenance (e.g., oil, grease, adjust, clean, etc.) to achieve equipment availability greater than 90 percent.
Repair equipment within planned time frames as indicated in work orders.
Conduct equipment inspections in response to Operator concerns or as outlined by the maintenance schedule and detect and diagnose troubles.
Fill out work orders and reports on maintenance, repairs, and diagnosis prior to the end of each shift.
Perform repairs in a cost-effective, safe, and environmentally friendly manner to maximize equipment availability.
Provide sufficient detail about repairs so that others can understand what work has been done on the equipment.
Work and Promote Safety within the Maintenance team.:
Meeting your personal safety plan commitments.
Immediately reporting all incidents and accidents to your immediate supervisor.
Working to achieve or exceed the site and departmental safety goals.
Foster and develop a safety culture within the processing plant.
Use a safe working attitude when performing tasks.
Complete a JHA prior to performing tasks.
Perform Written Takes 5 on every job.
Identify safety concerns to the crew and engage the crew on brain storming on how to manage these risks.
Advice crew members on how to develop good safety habits by identify hazards and managing these hazards.
Adhere to all safety standards and policies.
Foster a positive attitude towards change.
Participate in the daily PASS meetings.
Help develop Welder apprentices including delegating tasks or projects that will assist with their skill development and meet apprenticeship requirements.
Complete other related work as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor, Lead Hand, or Senior Managers.
The successful candidate will be one whose #1 priority is safety in the work place.
The incumbent will have:
Interprovincial (Red Seal) Journeyperson certification as a Welder.
CWB certification is an asset.
Current St. John's Ambulance Standard First Aid Certificate with CPR is an asset.
Training on the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is an asset.
At least 5 year experience in an industrial setting. Mining preferably.
