We are looking for a Manager, Network
Operations in our Woodstock, NB or Fredericton, NB office
locations. The Network Operations Manager will be responsible for
the effective day to day operations of the Xplornet next generation
and legacy satellite platforms and the performance of the
associated Support Teams. This team monitors and supports our
KA and KU satellite services on a national basis. The
individual in this role will ensure that we meet or exceed targeted
service levels on all satellite support related activities within
our satellite networks. The successful candidate will provide
hands-on direction and support for daily operational activities of
the Support Specialists. The Satellite Operations Manager will
provide expertise in Satellite Network Operations, support and
maintenance, to a team responsible for delivering ISP services on
satellite platforms. This role requires extensive knowledge of
satellite broadband access systems as well as experience in IP
networking and RF communications. This position reports to the
Director of Network Operations and will involve both on call
support and off-hours work.
Key responsibilities include:
? Provide leadership and coach team members to develop team
member's skills and experience while also addressing performance
challenges. This will be done through engaging your team members on
Xplornet's five values - Customer Focus, Teamwork, Innovation,
Accountability, Integrity and Employee Engagement.
? Improve customer experience, network stability & network
reliability through ensuring that the team understands and complies
with company policies and procedures, and issues are properly
documented, prioritized and actionable with the overall focus on
customer experience.
? Plan, schedule, track and report on progress of the
satellite build and on-going support of any satellite related
projects.
? Meeting, maintaining, improving team achievement of business
goals and department objectives through process improvements and
efficiency gains.
? Work with Network Engineering and vendors to plan, schedule
and approve Satellite Network Change Requests.
The ideal candidate will possess:
? 4-year degree Computer Science or Engineering (and / or
combination of education and experience).
? 3-5 years experience with Satellite broadband access systems
or similar terrestrial technologies.
? 3-5 years experience in Network Operations or
Engineering.
? Experience with Network management systems.
? Experience using different tools and utilities available to
troubleshoot network connectivity issues.
? 3 - 5 years managing a diverse team to achieve departmental
goals and expectations.
? In depth understanding and knowledge of geo stationary
satellite communications fundamentals:
o RF/IF
o ALC/UPC - rain impacts
o Transmissions schemes, TDMA, FM-TDMA, TDM, etc
o Spot beam satellite architecture
? In depth understanding and knowledge related to the
operation of satellite broad band access systems, or similar
terrestrial systems:
o Ranging/timing
o Network access
o Keep alive; handshake; scheduler
o Load balancing
o Forward link / return link schemes
o Fade mitigation techniques
? Solid understanding of IP networking.
? In depth experience and skills in System operation and
troubleshooting.
? Network management systems and processes.
? Data trending and analysis.
? Understanding of acceleration platforms for satellite.
? Experience with VoIP an asset.
? Traffic management polices and application.
? Experience with the operation of spectrum analyzers.
? Strong communications skills - written and verbal,
presentations etc.
? Strong Organizational and time/task management skills.
