We are currently searching for Project Engineers to join our 3 Nitrogen Growth projects. Please apply to this posting if you are qualified and interested in one or more of these exciting opportunities:
1 - Project Lightning - This major greenfield project will consist of the design and construction of a world class greenfield nitrogen complex in the upper Midwest US. Project size is estimated over $2B. This position will initially work out of Agrium’s Calgary office and ultimately mobilize to site;
2 - Project Lone Star: This large-scale brownfield project will consist of the design and construction of an ammonia expansion and brownfield urea unit located at Borger, Texas. Project size is estimated near $500M
3 - Redwater Brownfield Expansion: This large-scale project will consist of the design and construction of a urea expansion at Agrium’s Redwater facility in Redwater, Alberta. Project size is estimated near $150M
Reporting to the Project Manager/Director of each Project, the Project Engineer is responsible for the execution of capital projects and ensuring that work is carried out in a safe manner, on time, within budget and that the work is technically sound and of required quality. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading mechanical engineering activities for the Project and must possess knowledge of project management and engineering processes and have proven experience in working on significant multidiscipline industrial projects.
S pecific responsibilities will include:
Overall Project management following Agrium’s Project Work Management Process from scope development to startup. Project management includes working with and coordinating efforts among Agrium facility personnel, various skilled trades and 3rd-party contractors, to achieve Project design intentions.
Applying Engineering knowledge, skills, tools, experience, and techniques to Project activities to meet or exceed stakeholder needs, objectives, and expectations.
Ensuring successful completion of Projects in accordance with established Agrium procedures, standards, and policies.
Providing technical support based on sound Engineering principals and recognized industry standards.
Preparation of capital budgets, schedules and resource allocation plans for multi-discipline Projects, incorporating best practices in cost control, risk analysis and schedule stewardship.
Managing and controlling the Project to ensure that objectives are met in an economical and timely manner, and that quality control requirements are either developed or met as required.
Acting as liaison between terminal personnel, technical groups and outside contractors. As such the Project Engineer must have excellent communication and analytical skills applying an understanding and knowledge of the overall operation of distribution terminals.
Ensuring compliance to all government and corporate regulations in the area of safety, health and environment.
Qualifications of the position include:
Preference for Mechanical Engineering degree or other Engineering discipline with 4+ years experience
Experience with multi-discipline projects
Proven project management and contracting skills
Excellent interpersonal, communication, planning, problem solving, and organization skills.
Proven track record in safety management skills and practices
Knowledge of budgeting, financial analysis and accounting concepts
Experience working with MS Office and SAP
These positions operate in an office environment with a high degree of interaction between management, (self managed) teams and individuals. A high amount of telephone and computer work is required. Travel within North America and potentially Europe required.
