Conduct and manage experiments for transgenic event characterization and research in canola. Ensure efficient daily operation of laboratory, growth room and greenhouse. Design and execute molecular assays for transgenic plants with various constructs. Generate new ideals to improve productivity. Record, analyze and report production and research data. Duties/Responsibilities Work with minimal supervision in establishing project goals for the canola transgenic sorting team that are consistent with departmental goals that reflect customer needs, capacity and resource availability.
Organize and schedule lab/greenhouse activities to complete tasks on time with reliable data. Identify and solve production-related issue/problem. Maintain or improve daily work process and operation.
Summarize experiment results, prepare reports and review results with supervisor and colleagues. Monitor research progress to identify problems and opportunities. Remain current on new technologies by reviewing journal articles and other publications and participating in scientific meetings.
Communicate with supervisor on progress and discuss opportunities for application, IP protection, etc. Ensure compliance and maintenance/enhancement of ISO and Safety practices and standards. Education and Experience B.S. or M.Sc. in Molecular Biology or related disciplines plus 1-3 years of industrial experiences. Competencies Strong expertise and hand-on skills in molecular biotechnology, especially, molecular genetics. Ability to determine appropriate scientific approaches given the research question being asked. Demonstrated leadership, excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work in a team environment and interact effectively with members of other departments. Self-motivated with demonstrated time management skills and ability to prioritize and direct projects.
