The main purpose of this position is to create and execute quality creative for clients. This position reports to the Design Studio Manager , Communications.
As our Graphic Designer, you will:
- Take creative direction from internal clients and preparing concepts as required for a number of uses, such as: logos. Layouts, direct mailers etc.
- Build files and prepare professional quality mock-ups for client presentation upon approval of ideas by Creative Directors (CDs)
- Use studio technology to create mockups, including precision cutting and pasting skills
- Present concepts to internal clients for approval/feedback, as required
- Research images and ideas based on creative direction/art direction given
- Create, revise and complete final files for print and/or web production as required by the Studio Manager
- Evaluate projects daily, and on an ongoing basis, to ensure time and quality commitments are kept
- Attend team meetings on a regular basis, as required by the Studio manager
- Commit to deadlines based on workload, and skills set of the designer
- Take steps required to ensure timeline commitments are made, including working extra hours to meet deadlines
- Operate at an acceptable level of speed when producing files, as determined by the Studio Manager
- Produce production files with a minimum number of errors, as determined by the Studio Manager
- Follow Studio protocols with regards naming conventions and filing of project folders, archiving and other studio processes as determined by the Studio Manager
- Follow process for time-tracking both manually, on docket folders, and electronically, via Oracle
- Perform scanning, colour correction and image manipulation as needed
- Make client changes to existing dockets, as required
- Communicate changes which affect production delivery (i.e. system issues, materials missing, details missing) to the studio manager
- Advise Studio Manager of potential delays or if deadlines cannot be met.
- Ask teammates/Studio Manager for feedback or help if a stumbling block has been reached
- Collaborate with Studio Manager or teammates on production issues
As our Graphic Designer, you have:
- Expert skill level in Adobe CS5 (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop in particular) – the main industry standard software – for MAC
- Graphic arts industry, particularly pre-press production skills and related technical processes.
- A proficiency in various presentation softwares and their capabilities, including Powerpoint and Keynote. Additional presentation software like Prezi will be given additional consideration.
- Intermediate troubleshooting skills for MAC and the MAC’s Operating System
- Proven ability to manage tight timelines and cope with stressful deadlines.
- Expert level skill on the Mac, including current OS software, and periphery programs
- Able to function well as part of a large team

A minimum 3-4 years of experience in a graphic design studio environment, with accountability for file production
A degree or diploma in graphic design or equivalent experience
Completion of courses specializing in specific software including Adobe CS5
