Performs laboratory procedures in accordance with departmental and divisional policies. Procedures include: phlebotomy, ECG, specimen processing and patient reception.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Grade 12 education.

OSMT Certification or equivalent.

Relevant experience required.

Computer experience required.

REQUIRED SKILLS:
Knowledge of safe handling and packaging of laboratory specimens.

Ability to organize workload.

Competent performance of ECG and blood collection.

Knowledge and ability to perform assigned tasks.

Ability to communicate in written and oral English.

Ability to write legibly and to accurately record lab information.

Demonstrated interpersonal skills.

Evidence of satisfactory attendance.

Bilingualism in French/English an asset.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Receives, sorts and prepares specimens for testing and referral.

Receives patients, staff and visitors to the laboratory.

Performs blood collection (venipunctures and capillary punctures) and ECG’s.

Enters information into the lab computer and generates reports and worklists.

Handles and distributes reports, record sheets and specimens.
