The HR Assistant reports to the Manager, Employee Relations and Recruitment. The successful candidate will effectively provide support to the HR department by being the first point of contact for both public inquiries as well as inquiries from staff and managers regarding HR issues. The ideal candidate must have a keen attention to detail, as they will be responsible for the inputting of all new hires and status changes for current employees into our HRIS system (Empath).
The successful incumbent will provide administrative support to both the employee relations and recruitment functional areas. For employee relations, the HR Assistant will assist in processing requests for union leaves, preparing seniority lists, general interpretation of collective agreement language, minute-taking at labour management meetings and other administrative responsibilities related to the grievance process.
For recruitment, the HR Assistant will assist with the posting process under the guidance of the recruitment specialist. The HR Assistant will be responsible for screening all hiring requisitions, assigning them to the appropriate recruiter, posting the positions on the internal job boards. In the event the position is filled internally, the posting will become the responsibility of the HR assistant who will put together the candidate’s list and resumes for the manager, draft the letter for the successful candidate, file the letter and close the posting in Empath.
Job Requirements
- 2-3 years experience in human resources, preferably in a healthcare setting.
- Community College Certificate in HR program or related post-secondary education preferred or equivalent combination of education and relevant human resources experience.
- Confirmed superior customer service, administrative and communication skills are essential.
- Strong knowledge of Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and Powerpoint.
- Familiarity with an HRIS system is preferred
- Detail-oriented and able to respond positively to change.
- Able to work both independently and as a member of a team.
