Challenge
Fisheries and Oceans Canada seeks a highly-skilled and experienced technician to support the assessment and research of freshwater salmonid ecosystems in British Columbia and Yukon Territory. The position involves conducting hydroacoustic and trawl surveys of a variety of sockeye salmon nursery lakes, as well as fish sampling for species composition, fish aging, DNA, and diet analyses. Duties include the processing and analysis of hydroacoustic and catch data, and the management of long-term fisheries databases. The successful candidate would be a proficient vessel operator, and responsible for the maintenance and operation of program vessels and equipment. Additional duties include the design and implementation of a variety of fisheries ecological investigations in lake and river environments, and participate in the production of scientific publications.
