5 (7.75 hour) shifts per 1 week cycle (days/on-call)
Salary/Benefits:
$34.26 - $44.03 per hour
Responsibilities/Duties:
The Microbiology Technologist II under the direction of the Microbiology Laboratory Technologist III is responsible and accountable for overseeing the safe day-to-day operations of the Microbiology Department as it relates to the pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytic activities required to support the delivery of AHS Laboratory Microbiology services. The Microbiology Technologist II is accountable to the public and as such is responsible for ensuring that decisions follow establishes standards and practices as defined by AHS, College of Physicians and Surgeons Accreditation Standards, ACMLT, CSMLS, Health Canada Laboratory Bio-safety Guidelines, Health Protection Act, Public Health Act and any other legislative requirements or standards of practice for the Profession.
Qualifications:
Graduate from a recognized Medical Laboratory Technology program. BSc MLS/BLT from a recognized university preferred. Courses in computer applications and Operations
Minimum of five (5) years in a Microbiology laboratory as an MLT, or equivalent as assessed by the Site Manager. Minimum three years supervision experience preferred.
ART, Certification with the CSMLS or equivalent. MLT, General Certification. Current ACMLT registration.
Ability to bend, walk, lift light loads, reach above head throughout shift.
Excellent hand/eye coordination to safety handle bio-hazardous specimens and hazardous or toxic chemicals with precision and so as not to endanger oneself, co-workers or the public
Potential exposure to hazardous or toxic chemicals and noxious fumes. Potential exposure to bio-hazardous specimens which could result in severe disability or fatality. Working in conditions that where heat and crowding may exist.
Working in conditions where a patient is potentially violent or abusive. Must be able to meet the physical demands for the position. Ability to maintain a calm, positive attitude while managing difficult situation with staff, patients, physicians and other members of the health care team either in direct contact or by phone.
Ability to prioritize multiple requests from a variety of audiences with differing needs and priorities.
Ability to handle periodic interruptions to meet emergent or unscheduled demands.
Must have a recent (within the past three months) criminal record check/police information check (including vulnerable sector search) prior to the first date of hire.
