The role of Niagara Research is to provide real-world solutions for business, industry and the community through applied research and knowledge transfer activities. Niagara Research, in partnership with business or community partners, conducts applied research projects that model or simulate solutions, develop and test prototypes, adopt new technologies and knowledge, develop and evaluate new or improved products, processes, or solutions to community issues.

MAIN FUNCTIONS: As a Web Design Research Associate, he or she will have a comprehensive skill set to work with Faculty Leads, Research Project Managers, and Industry Partners on a variety projects. He or she will have the ability to lead and mentor students to achieve project goals. The Research Associate will report to the Faculty Leads and Research Project Manager.

- Works on a number of research projects involving web, graphic and mobile application design
- Serves as a mentor and provides coaching to Research Assistants
- Provides logistics support for Niagara Research software projects
- Assists with the coordination of meetings and special events
- Documents, edits, reports, and tracks accurate records of all project progress and/or events (sign offs, time completion, meeting minutes, general correspondence, etc.)
- Attends planning or project-specific meetings as required and takes and prepares minutes when required
- Interacts regularly with students, faculty, Niagara Research staff, and/or industry partners
- Works independently and unsupervised

- Experience with any of the following technologies; Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Flash), HTML5/CSS3, JavaScript, JQuery
- Has completed a web or graphic design program and has graduated or will be graduating in 2012
- Must have a strong working knowledge of mobile or web application technologies
- Demonstrates a high level of organization and time management skills
- Demonstrates great attention to detail, quality, and accuracy
- Ability to supervise, coach, and mentor others
- Ability to be a project lead and a collaborative team member
- Ability to take initiative to complete tasks and develop solutions
- Ability to self-teach new software, ideas, concepts as required for projects
- Ability to complete multiple tasks and manage any unforeseen issues
- Demonstrates creativity in developing new ideas
- Ability to communicate with non-technical and highly technical individuals
- Strong communication (written/oral), interpersonal, and presentation skills
- Experience with AJAX is an asset
- Experience working with server side code (PHP, ASP) is an asset

- Monday to Friday between 8:30am - 4:30pm
- 20 hours per week until March 31, 2014 (with the possibility to extend depending on funding availability)
- Reading text and documents
- Indoors, sitting, and constant computer use
