Responsible and accountable for planning, coordinating and updating web content for the top-tier University of Waterloo websites, including the University of Waterloo homepage. Plan and coordinate web-content creation and updates for the top-tier University of Waterloo websites. Keep the University homepage and related webpages up-to-date in alignment with Communications and Public Affairs’ weekly content planning and overall editorial calendar. Update content on the top-tier University of Waterloo websites using the University’s web content management system; must be comfortable and experienced updating content on websites via a web content management system such as Drupal, WordPress or similar.
Support evidence-based enhancements to content on top-tier University of Waterloo websites using website analytics, competitive analyses, usability feedback, and similar research methods. Consult on and apply web-content-writing best practices taking into account SEO, usability and accessibility. Must be familiar with or willing to learn web-content-accessibility requirements to meet AODA legislation, and must apply web-content-accessibility requirements in publishing content on top-tier University of Waterloo websites.
Regularly review and edit content on the top-tier University of Waterloo websites for correct spelling and grammar and adherence to the university’s Web Style Guide. Flexibility to respond to unexpected and time-sensitive demands is required.
Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required. Basic experience using SharePoint is an asset. Ability to do basic graphics creation or editing using graphics software (e.g. Adobe CS) is an asset.
A Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field is required. At least 5 years direct experience with web-content creation and management is desired.
