Summary of Roles and Responsibilities:

Provides leadership, direction and support for the operations managers to ensure they are focused on their roles and executing the corporations daily business
Drives the financial success of the business by monitoring overhead and project costs and making adjustments as required
Assist with business development and sales activities
Coordinates activities company wide by facilitating communications to assure efficient and effective operations for equipment, manpower and logistics ensuring SAFETY is always the highest priority
Drives bottom line profit dollars for the operation by directing operations managers through high staff utilization as well as overhead and project cost control
Assists in developing and responsible for executing the annual business plan, budget and cost control strategy for the corporation
Hires and maintains the correct management personnel and maintains the organizational chart to position the company for achievement of the strategic direction as well as the long and short term goals
Represents the corporation at client meetings and events as required

Major Functions:

Financial Management 30% time commitment

Executes the company business plan and ensures the overall corporate budget numbers are achieved
Approves expenditures and monitors spending
Reviews the financial performance of the corporation and adjusts the operations to meet the established budget requirements
Closely reviews project margin reports and makes adjustments as required to ensure strong profitability
Manages the corporation staff to high productivity keeping billable personnel organized for high utilization
Monitors and controls overhead spending
Produces ROI for capital investment items

Manage Corporate Operations 60% time commitment

Manages the planning and successful execution of the complete range of engineering, field and shop projects carried out from the regional offices by directing the individual operations managers for each geographical area
Assures that work plans provide for on-site safety of MEC personnel, customer personnel and customer equipment
Assures that MEC resources are effectively and efficiently used in responding to the needs of customers and keeping staff utilization high corporate wide
Assures that the technical quality of each project including engineering and test reports to meet MEC standards and that customer satisfaction is achieved
Directly oversees very large projects and assists in the project implementation and logistics coordinating corporate personnel, equipment and resources
Correspond with corporate marketing and finance personnel to determine any required changes in the company operations
Forecasts corporate workload by communicating with operations managers and sales staff to properly get projects done on time with a high level of customer satisfaction
Assist VP - Corporate Services with managing corporate affairs such as insurance, terms and conditions, legal issues, major warranty claims, human resources issues, administration, policies and procedures, training and general operating parameters of the company
Works with HR in an appraisal system assuring each staff member ongoing performance feedback and annual performance reviews
Dealing with issues before they become problems by directly engaging the situation and providing a solution
Assisting staff in decision making to ensure operations can get work done efficiently by removing road blocks

Long Range Planning 10% time commitment

Assists in long range strategic planning and developing the long and short term goals of the corporation
Correlates the annual budgets for all aspects of the operations working closely with the individual operations managers
Assists in developing the overall Operations Business Plan to execute the strategic plan including an annual budget, cost control strategy, staffing strategy and workload optimization plan
Develops a sense of team membership among staff, develops a positive work environment and adapts to the changing business climate in order to maintain long term employees

The following attributes will facilitate your success in this position:

10+ years experience in a comparable industry with several years in a senior management position
Effectively provided leadership and communications to the operations group
Developed a smoothly functioning, technically strong team of management to execute the annual business plan and to achieve the annual budget
Realized operational shortcomings and made necessary adjustments to maintain proficiency
Managed a strong safety program with no lost time incidents
Managed overhead and project costs to attained profitability goals
Attained utilization goals for the operations
Executed the annual business plan
Maintained a high level of customer satisfaction
Assisted in the long range planning
Improved personal knowledge of the technical aspects of MEC’s operations
Effectively handled corporate affairs
