A Tool & Die Maker is responsible for repairing and modifying custom-made, prototype or special tools, dies, jigs, fixtures and gauges using various metals, which require precise dimensions. This position also involves the operation of lathes, grinders/milling/boring machines, and computerized numeric control (CNC) machines.

The specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Read and interpret drawings and specifications of tools, dies, prototypes or models.
Compute dimensions and tolerances and set up machine tools.
Position, secure, measure and work metal stock or castings to lay out for machining.
Set up, operate and maintain a variety of machine tools including computerized numeric control (CNC) tools to cut, turn, mill, plane, bore, grind or otherwise shape work piece to prescribed dimensions and finish.
Verify machined parts for conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
Fit, assemble or disassemble parts using hand tools.
Machine, fit and assemble casting and other parts to make metal patterns.
Machine, fit and assemble parts to make metal moulds.
Inspect and test completed tools, dies, jigs or fixtures for proper operation.
Assist other Tool Shop personnel as required.

Requirements

Licenses: Tool & Die Maker license required or relative experience
Experience: Minimum 5 years of Tool & Die Making experience
Must be able to work shift work and overtime
Must have a clear criminal record

Skills:

Ability to manipulate measuring equipment
Blueprint schematics drawing reading
Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills
Strong time management and job planning skills
Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
Good communication skills (ability to read, write and understand English).
Interpersonal skills – team player.
