Reporting to the appropriate TOHL department supervisor, the Summer Staff is responsible for a variety of tasks including: grass cutting, litter & garbage pick-up/removal and related duties on Municipal properties, Parks, playgrounds and Ball Diamonds. All positions require physical labour and the safe operation of small, heavy equipment, including gas powered weed eaters, lawn mowers and garden tractors. Other duties may include Sidewalk Brick Laying, Landscaping, Facility Maintenance, Painting, Fencing and other related Repairs or Janitorial duties at either Public Works/Water Treatment Plant or Community Services (Arena & Parks).

Requirements:
Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License
Steel-toed boots, CSA approved
Must be able to handle the weight of the equipment and physical demands of the position
PW Shop Assistant – requires some knowledge and familiarity with small engine repair and operation

Assets:
Standard First Aid and/or Safety Training
Previous experience with grass cutting equipment
Mechanical aptitude
Groundskeeping/Horticulture experience

Work hours are 40 Hrs per week with the flexibility to work occasional weekends, and may require work in inclement weather and dusty conditions.
Wage Scale: starting at $15.85 - $17.70/hr.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Summer Maintenance (Landscape/Horticulture) Crew

Reporting to the PW Lead Hand or Sports Complex Supervisor (or designated Supervisor), the Maintenance crew is responsible for the safe operation of vehicles and equipment including, but not limited to: weed eaters, lawn mowers and tractors for the purpose of grass cutting, watering & maintenance of flowers, trees and shrubs on municipally owned properties. The Maintenance crew is also responsible for repair and maintenance to town properties & buildings such as litter control, minor renovations and painting.

General Duties:
1. Maintenance of properties (grass & grounds) as required, in accordance with
policy and the grass cutting schedule for the town areas, including cemetery.
2. Operate any vehicles or grass cutting equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
3. Fuelling & maintenance of grass cutting and/or watering equipment.
4. Watering and maintenance of specified flowers, trees and shrubs.
5. Planting and replacing flowers.
6. Collection & removal of litter on municipal property.
7. Assisting with landscaping and beautification projects.
8. Assisting PW operators when needed.

Record Keeping And Public Service Duties:
1. Be courteous, understanding, and conclusive when dealing with public complaints or inquiries; reporting all complaints to the immediate Supervisor.
2. Ensure the same level of service is extended to the public, regardless of the individual or circumstances.
3. Report all accidents or incidents immediately to supervisor and complete Accident/Incident report within 12 hours of such incidents

Other Duties:
1. Assist the Supervisor by advising him of costs related to equipment supplies or repairs
2. Maintain longevity of equipment and facilities through proper operation and maintenance.
3. Maintain strict confidence in all matters pertaining to the Town or its employees.
4. Be responsible for safety, the safety of fellow workers and contractors at all times.
5. Recognize potential hazards in the workplace and report them to the Supervisor and/or Safety Committee.

Required Education and Training:
1. The minimum level of education required to perform these duties is Grade 12;
2. Drivers License Class 5.
3. First Aid and/or safety training.

Guidance Received
Directives, manuals, regulations, ordinances or other written guidelines used regularly by this position are;

 Directives and direction received from the Senior Groundskeeper;
 Town's Policies and Procedures.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Summer Seasonal Assistant Public Works Operator

Reporting to the Utilities Manager OR Public Works Lead Hand, the Assistant Operator is responsible for the safe operation of small equipment and tools while performing minor tasks, repairs and maintenance of Town of High Level roads, sewers and properties, in assisting the Public Works full-time staff either on the Roads crew or Water Treatment Plant.

Duties:
9. Operation of small tools and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
10. Manual labour assisting with a variety of tasks
11. Picking of litter on Town owned or maintained properties
12. Assisting equipment operators as required with repairs and maintenance
13. Assisting with landscaping and beautification projects

Record Keeping And Public Service Duties:
4. Be courteous and understanding when dealing with public complaints or inquiries; reporting all complaints to the immediate Supervisor.
