The Head Purchaser is able to provide guidance & support to the Junior Purchaser/Buying team. Able to estimate and organize time and parts required for jobs. Assures I.S.O. (quality control) standards are met. May review drawings and schematics for accuracy. Works with other departments to effectively supervise workers and distribute work load to maximize productivity.

Works with Production Manager to effectively supervise workers and distribute work load to maximize productivity.
Establishes and maintains vendor product database files.
Establishes and monitors project purchasing plan.
Provides recommendations to Product Manager with respect to Purchasing policies, strategies and pricing.
Work with Project Manager to establish a Build Of Material for all work orders (service and manufacturing)
Work hand in hand with Shop Supervisors reporting status on all parts and material inquiries.
Assist with invoicing and quotations to Customers as per management requests.
Assist in population of Project BOM’s with procurement details as required from relevant Req. forms submitted.
Procurement and materials management for technical drawing packages or schematics released.
Ensure material or component conforms to specifications outlined by drawing or requisition form.
Assure that proper monitoring and maintenance of the purchasing system is a priority and is being followed by purchasing personnel.
Ensure that purchasing personnel is doing a proper follow up on outstanding PO’s and long lead items, and that it is being reported.
Monitor and structure purchasing department to help control overall operating costs.
Establish new suppliers to expand resource networks.
Oversee conflict resolution with vendors when quality issues arise.
Be available on call after hours and on weekends for support if needed.

Qualifications for this position requires at least 5 years experience in a Buyer/Purchaser role within a manufacturing and or service environment. Have the ability to analyze purchasing options and make purchasing decisions involving large sums of money. Ability to prioritize work and to provide rapid response to critical issues. Experience working with MRP systems, and some courses in Purchasing.
Post Secondary education in Business administration, Supply Chain Management is considered an asset. Is aware of I.S.O. quality requirements and has experience supervising & directing staff, along with strong leadership & communication skills.
