Position: Payroll Specialist

Status: 1.0 FTE
Duration: Temporary – 1 year
Closing Date: Open until filled
Location: Diagnostic & Scientific Centre (#9, 3535 Research Road NW)
Schedule: Monday to Friday days.

Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Total Rewards, this position is responsible for the effective design, implementation and effectiveness of the in-house payroll system. This position participates in the development of payroll related policies and procedures and is responsible for providing functional leadership to the payroll team as well as assisting with the processing of the bi-weekly payroll.
Key Accountabilities

 Ensures system set-up and software maintenance is current and compliant; tests new software features.
 Plans and analyzes workflow to ensure efficiency and compliance with policies, collective agreements and 3rd party deadlines.
 Assumes a leadership role in affecting change in the ongoing evolution of best business practices that ensure organizational compliance with all legislative, contractual and internal/external audit requirements.
 Responsible for the training of timekeepers in payroll related functions.
 Facilitates the development and distribution of information, including internal/management reports that track staffing & identify budget variances.
 Liaises with external agencies, such as CCRA, to ensure external reporting requirements are met.
 Collaborates with the Finance and IS departments to ensure financial data is created appropriately and to ensure the continuity of service to the end users.
 Lead and participates in T4, WCB and other year-end reconciliation and reporting.
 Ensures the accuracy and integrity of the payroll records by maintaining the require information in various formats, including source documents and electronic data.
 Other duties as assigned.
 Professional and ethical responsibility to protect privacy, use confidential information appropriately and maintain the confidentiality / security of all information related to patients, staff and CLS business.
 Demonstrates professionalism, respect/caring, integrity, dedication and excellence (PRIDE) in the work environment.

Skills and Aptitudes
 Minimum 5 years of payroll processing experience is required including experience in a complex, multi-union environment using an in-house payroll solution.
 Canadian Payroll III certification.
 Human Resource and or Benefits certification an asset.
 Attention to detail, and the ability to establish priorities in a high-volume workplace in order to meet established deadlines.
 Experience in managing payroll processes in a complex, multi-union environment using the Avanti payroll/HR system.
 Attention to detail, and the ability to establish priorities in a high-volume workplace in order to meet established deadlines.
 Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to function as a team player.
 Excellent communication, organizational and customer service skills.
