Main Purpose & Function
The Manager, Web Operations is accountable for the Web Operation team, including both Performance and Content functions. The Manager, Web Operations is responsible for the performance function of the website including: user experience, search optimization, web traffic and quality assurance functions, and the content function of the website including: web content and publishing, web editing, training, sourcing and systems administration.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Responsible for the maintenance and evolution of the information architecture and visual/interaction design for websites, applications, and other emerging digital channels within the city. Accountable to develop standards and best practices to maintain and evolve a consistent and appropriate “look and feel” for the city’s digital assets. Continue the definition of online standards and guidelines to ensure a consistent user experience.
Maintain and evolve visually rich interfaces that attract audience interaction, convey stories and ideas, attract new audiences, and help the organization reach its online goals related to publishing, service provision and public engagement. Lead implementation of key strategic initiatives and projects, managing design, new media and and usability resources to ensure the organization is well positioned to meet key performance indicators and strategic objectives. Research industry best practices and perform competitive site reviews. Oversee the quality assurance strategy and administrative processes for the ongoing operations of the City website.
Provide direction and establish work expectations and goals for the team and individuals. Manage attendance and performance, including discipline as necessary. Recruit, orient, train and manage staff through coaching and mentorship.
The successful candidate will have a University or professional college degree in Communications, Library or Computer Sciences or an equivalent combination of education, and direct experience in web operations management within a multi-disciplinary agency. 7-10 years of professional experience in one or more of the following area: business strategy, communication strategy, user experience design and/or information sciences.
Extensive experience with web services including an understanding of the planning, design, development, promotion and maintenance of websites, along with experience managing the creation of interactive content for different business stakeholders and end users is required. Demonstrated experience in managing complex work flows and multi-tasking under pressure and on deadline, as well as managing employees (preferably in a unionized environment).
The successful candidate must possess the ability to communicate effectively; coach; inspire and manage multi-displinary teams in a fast-paced, performance-focused environment; establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts; and have proficiency with MS Office Suite. Experience with MS Project is desirable.
