Lead Technologist

Within the Medium Heavy Lift Helicopter (MHLH) In-Service Support (ISS) program, GD Canada will support the Maintenance Training Suite (MTS) located at the Main Operating Base (MOB) at CFB Petawawa in Ontario.

The MTS will be used to provide AVN and AVS personnel with the skills required to successfully perform all required maintenance of the MHLH helicopter. The role of the MTS Lead Technologist is to lead the team that operates and maintains the MTS equipment, resolves outstanding and newly discovered technical issues and upgrades the training system, as required.

The MTS Team is currently looking for a lead Technologist to provide long-term system support for the MTS at the MOB in Petawawa. The Technician must have relevant experience using lab equipment and electronic systems similar to those found on a large military helicopter. The candidates must be highly motivated and enthusiastic and preferably have experience with installation, test and troubleshooting aircraft and avionics systems.

The Lead Technologist will also be expected to lead, mentor and direct the activities of a team of technologist that support the MTS.


The Lead Technologist will take responsibility for and initiative to:
Provide system installation support, assist in the conduct of first power-up, system checkout and in-situ validation and performance demonstration.
Provide on-going system technical support including system checkout, system diagnosis, in-situ repairs, modifications and follow-up.
Perform routine maintenance tasks such as backups, ordering and replacement of consumables, regular inspections.
Provide customer technical support. Conduct and support trials, technical investigations and tests.
Validate system configurations; install new suites of software, change peripherals, and support training. These tasks will normally be conducted directly in coordination with the customer.
Represent the maintenance and support requirements to internal support groups.
Support maintenance issues such as updating user and installation manuals, compilation of parts lists, configuration lists and family tree documentation.
Maintain test equipment, racks, cables and connectors.
Manage and lead the team that supports the MTS.


At least 10-15 years of relevant work experience.
Ability to interact effectively with Customers and Team Members.
Familiarity with rotor wing aircraft systems and/or maintenance training simulators.
Familiarity with aircraft mission systems.
Familiarity with Information Technology and DND networking procedures and guidelines.
Experience with MIL-STD systems and environments.
Willing to learn and adapt to new methods and procedures.
Willing to actively participate in the decision making process.
Accept personal accountability to the team and to external / internal customers.
Must be able to provide, as well as receive, constructive feedback.


Three year Community College diploma as a Technologist or equivalent military training.


Must be willing to be permanently located to the Petawawa, ON area.
Must be able to obtain NATO Secret security clearance.
This position may initially require some travel to the United States and Ottawa.
