Looking for an exciting career with Alberta’s Top 60 Employer? Calgary Laboratory Services is currently looking to fill a Full-Time vacancy for a Jr. Environmental Health & Safety Consultant.
Calgary Laboratory Services (CLS) is a medical diagnostic laboratory that offers a full range of laboratory services to Calgary and parts of Southern Alberta. Every year more than two thousand physicians access our services to help diagnose, treat and monitor their patients' health.
Through our community collection sites, mobile services, and hospital laboratories, we serve over a million people each year and perform approximately 21 million tests annually.

From collecting blood samples to developing new treatments for patient care, we play an important role in the delivery of healthcare.
Reporting to the Manager, Environmental Health & Safety, this position is responsible for maintenance of current EH&S programs, resources for Operations and other departments for Safety policies, practices, and EHS training throughout the organization.
Assists EH&S Consultant with ensuring compliance to all required Federal, Provincial, and Municipal legislation as well as CAP, NCCLS and CPSA accreditation requirements.
Works with EH&S Consultant to ensure that lab design and TDG requirements are met.
Maintains programs for accident prevention, incident investigation, inspections, fire and emergency response and required training.
Utilizes statistics to trend and proactively provide recommendations for organizational improvement.
Responds to and follows up on queries brought forward to the department by Operations and other areas within CLS as applicable.
Conducts hazard assessments, ergonomic assessments, reviews Accident/Incident/Illness reports and provides recommendations based on conclusions.
Keeps abreast of safe laboratory practices and recommend changes or improvements where necessary.
Participates in safety audits (COR and JHSC), WHMIS and spill response programs.
Conducts organizational training including new employee orientation, respirator fit testing/training, WHMIS, Emergency Warden, TDG and others as required.
Liaison with internal and external occupational health and safety, facility personnel and contractors/vendors when necessary.
Co Chairs CLS Joint Health & Safety Committee.
Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Aptitudes
- Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent combination of training/education.
- 3 years related work experience.
- Background in health care and/or laboratory environment is preferred.
- Previous experience in the implementation and training of Safety, WHMIS, TDG an asset.
- Current certification in WHMIS and TDG.
- Excellent communication (written and verbal), organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to effectively prioritize.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook).
