The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is looking for a part time contract person that lives in the region to support our work in expanding our program to youth in the Kamloops area.
We are looking for someone with public engagement experience, event experience, media experience as well as a strong commitment to the youth in the community. You are able to work independently, love speaking in public and have a positive attitude.
What is the Award?
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award was founded by His Royal Highness The Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh, to encourage personal development and community involvement for young people. The programme has three levels, Bronze, Silver and Gold, and is open to any person between the ages of 14 and 25. Participants complete The Award by achieving personally established goals, in the areas of Community Service, Skill Development, Physical Recreation, and Adventurous Journey. In pursuing these activities, young people learn responsibility, acquire new skills, and increase their level of physical fitness. In achieving the goals they set for themselves, participants demonstrate their commitment, motivation, and personal development.
The role of the Field Officer is to support the Division Office in delivering The Award to more youth in the region and enhancing the experience of participants
This includes two main objectives:
1. Promoting the Award Program
o Planning all public engagement in the community
o Attending public events to hand out information
o Giving presentations to youth organizations, youth or parents
o Recruit community leaders
o Contacting local media to include stories about The Award
o Distributing promotional materials to relevant facilities and groups
o Represent The Award at local meetings and networking events
2. Supporting current groups and participants
o Assisting groups and participants to register with the Division Office
o Answer questions or direct questions to the Division Office
o Planning ceremonies in the community
All Field Officers must also obtain a clean VSS check through their local police and provide the original copy to the Division Office. We are happy to provide a letter stating you are a volunteer to waive the fee.
