Department Overview
The Finance systems Centre of Excellence (COE) is the systems development and services provider for TDBG enterprise wide Finance organization. The COE is a key construct within the Finance Technology Solution organization to enable the Finance function to become a world class Finance Function. The Finance vision of the Integrated Finance Model calls for integrated and consistent finance organization, aligned to the needs of a rapidly growing North American bank. The Finance Systems COE is a key integral part to execute the IFM vision for technology. It mandate is to execute strategic technology delivery in an industrialized, standardized, cost effective, and high quality manner for all Finance users in US & Canada.

Job Description
The mandate of the role is specific to Finance related Business Intelligence activities (Management Reporting and Planning). Prime software is Oracle Hyperion Essbase, Planning, and OBIEE set of tools, and in the future is Oracle Financials reporting tools.

  • Overall accountability for the delivery of the System Design Specification (SDS) and responsible for developing the Component Design section of the SDS
  • Responsible for detailed design (System Design Specifications) of applications
  • Define development specifications and identify system modifications required to meet performance objectives
  • Comply with the system development life cycle (SDLC) and project management methodology (PMLC) - including development of project documentation of system requirements, estimates of scope and cost, etc.
  • Ensure design has traceability to business requirements
  • Identify and address application and data issues and cross-capability and cross-relate issues that affect application integrity
  • Ensure design leverages existing reusable components and ensure new modules are designed with reusability as a key requirement
  • Advise and provide expert knowledge on the technical feasibility of the proposed deliverables
  • Review and integrate all application requirements, including functional, security, integration, performance, quality, and operations requirements
  • Identify, recommend, source, negotiate and implement improvements/solutions (buy/build/reuse) to enhance stakeholder experience and/or reduce cost in support of business needs
  • Work with BI data modelers / ETL Developers / BI Analyst to ensure that the detailed technical design is fully understood and the development initiatives are in line with the intended design
  • In conjunction with the overall Finance Systems Solutions designer and Enterprise Architect, assist the Application Owner and Application Manager by providing effort estimates for new projects and initiatives
  • Work with the Technology Managers, and other team members to define metrics and performance goals for the application
  • Fully understand the capabilities and limitations of the technical environments that come with any packaged software used by the project
  • Adhere to existing processes/standards, business technology architecture, risk and production capacity guidelines; plan, monitor and escalate issues as required
  • Consult on development of the System Requirements Specification (SRS)
  • Advise and provide expert knowledge on the technical feasibility of the proposed deliverables
  • Design, review, and integrate all application requirements, including functional, security, integration, performance, quality, and operational requirements
  • Provide technical leadership during the life of a project/initiative
  • Support the build phase to ensure adherence to the software architecture
  • Develop/review application and technical design deliverables throughout development to ensure quality and requirement traceability
  • Lead and conduct code reviews to ensure quality, standards compliance, reusability and ease of maintenance
  • Lead the creation of a comprehensive end-to-end solution and coordinate with Solution architects and other Solution Designers, as required
  • Support gating and review sign-offs for solution design
  • Ensure adherence to all quality management plans and standards by participating in quality management reviews

Deploy, Maintain and Support Technology Solutions

  • Provide input into Application Deployment Plan
  • Lead the identification of opportunities to minimize cost, provide recommendations and/or deliver corresponding strategic solutions to support cost effectiveness. This may include: Evaluation of tools and utilities that boost productivity, refactoring / redesign of existing modules for performance and scalability, process improvements
  • Develop expertise of system development methodologies, IT implications for systems/technologies and impact on business solutions
  • Monitor product lifecycles, ensuring specifications and functionally support business objectives and architecture decisions, undertaking re-design, and required
  • Follow defined standards, policies and procedures to ensure compliance with the Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) and applicable Business Recovery Plans (BRP)
  • Deliver effective and efficient solutions by meeting key project milestones and ensure that the project deliverables are on time, within budget, and adhere to the corporate quality and security standards
  • Continuously enhance knowledge/expertise in own area and keep current with leading-edge technologies trends/developments and develop expertise in TD services, applications, infrastructure, analytical tools, and techniques that can contribute to effective solution design/delivery

Manage Relationships

  • Support obtaining stakeholder buy-in for an application and technical designs
  • Maintain a strong external profile, contributing to leading edge initiatives
  • Communicate project status and provide timely escalation of issues to ensure project objectives are met
  • May develop and/or contribute to negotiations of third part contracts/agreements
  • Deliver assigned tasks/initiatives accurately and on a timely basis
  • Identify and recommend opportunities to enhance productivity, effectiveness and operational efficiency of the business unit and/or team
  • Support Knowledge Management processes
  • Coordinate/facilitate training and communication of key knowledge assets with all required SMEs

  • Act as an expert resource providing technical insight and recommendations based on industry and technology trends, application / system strategy and design

Specific Educational Requirements/Accreditations:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or computer sciences preferred
  • Candidates which do not meet the education requirements but have extensive will be considered

Other Qualifications/Skills/Experience:

  • In depth knowledge of Oracle BI (Hyperion Essabse, Planning and OBIEE software) related technologies and Modeling is a must
  • Minimum 5 years Information / data solution engineering experience in a large organization
  • Possess a broad technical understanding of DW/DM/BI applications, technologies, data models, and processes
  • Knowledge of the technical environment/tools, including user environment, applications, software, hardware, programming languages and operating systems in the DW/BI area
  • Knowledge of the DW / BI applications design and development tools and methodologies. This may include standard development tools and utilities (e.g data mapping tools, meta data management tools, ETL, data quality tools, etc)
  • Strong knowledge and experience in the use of SDLC methodologies
  • Knowledge of business/organization, FI standards, infrastructure, architecture and technology in related areas from a design/support/solutions perspective
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure domain technologies would be an asset
  • Subject matter expert in multiple areas and consults with stakeholders or project teams with respect to all aspects of research, analysis, design, hardware/software support and/or development of technical solutions
  • Works independently and/or autonomously on a diverse range of tasks and is relied upon to coach/educate others
  • Ability to act as a lead technical development expert and subject matter expert for a business application and/or a specific technology
  • Highly flexible and able to quickly adapt to changing priorities
