Full Time Opportunity for a
FACILITIES MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
(POWER ENGINEER 5TH CLASS)

The Facilities Maintenance Technician/Power Engineer will be responsible for the ongoing and preventative maintenance and repair of Town of High Level owned or leased facilities. Facilities include the Aquatic Centre, Sports Complex, Museum, Airport terminal building, Town Hall, Water Treatment Plant and Public Works shop areas.

Facility Duties
1. Perform regularly scheduled inspections on facilities to ensure they are in good repair and are functioning properly;
2. Work Orders will be utilized for scheduling and recording of non-regularly-scheduled work;
3. Work will include maintenance and minor repairs to buildings, HVAC systems and plumbing, fixtures or components;
4. Completion of smaller projects ie carpentry items, playground items etc;
5. Facilities Maintenance Technician will not perform any work that requires a licensed tradesperson unless he/she is licensed in that trade. Ensure all work done is in compliance with existing building & safety codes and standards;
6. Assist with coordination and completion of capital projects as assigned;
7. Perform and/or coordinate with contractors for ongoing and preventative maintenance of all Town owned facilities and equipment;
8. Ensure all work awarded to contractors is in accordance to Town policies.

Power Engineering Duties
1. Oversee the operation of all municipal heating plants up to a capacity of 3,000 kW.
2. Supervise the heating plants in accordance with the recommendations set out in the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section VI.
3. Conduct checks of the heating plant’s equipment, twice within each 24 hour period and at least 7 hours apart.
4. Update and maintain a log book in accordance to the Power Engineers Regulation.
5. Ensure qualified persons are present for start up of a heating plant.
6. Maintain certification with the Alberta Boiler Safety Association.
7. Actively participates in and adheres to the Workplace Health & Safety Program as per the THL Health & Safety Policy 218-07 and associated Administrative Directives, in order to maintain a safe & healthy workplace.

REQUIREMENTS
The minimum level of education required to perform these duties are:
- Grade 12;
- Class 5 Drivers License;
- Standard First Aid w CPR;
- Power Engineering 5th Class certification;
- Proficient with computers and in Microsoft Office applications.

The minimum experience required to perform these duties are:
- 3 years experience in a similar capacity or a Trades certificate;

The Employee may be required on an ongoing basis to attend applicable training, workshops, seminars and courses at the discretion of the Employer in order to facilitate job knowledge and performance

Facility Duties

Record Keeping and Public Service Duties

1. Maintain accurate repair and inspection records on each of the Town of High Level facilities;
2. Implement and maintain maintenance schedules for each facility;
3. Ensure all work awarded to contractors is in accordance to Town policies and records kept.
4. Assist in developing and executing short and long term preventive maintenance programs.
5. Be courteous, understanding, and conclusive when dealing with public complaints or town staff concerns;
6. Report all accidents or incidents immediately to the Director of Development & planning Services and complete Accident/Incident reports within 24 hours of such incidents.

Financial Duties

1. Ensure all purchases or contractor hiring is done in accordance to Town policy;
2. Assist the Facility Supervisor by advising him/her of costs related to equipment supplies;
3. Assist Directors with the annual budget process;
4. Create and maintain an inventory of tools and equipment.

Other Duties

1. Maintain strict confidence in all matters pertaining to the Town and its employees;
2. Recognize potential hazards and report to Facility Supervisors or Director;
3. Maintain longevity of tools and equipment through proper operation and maintenance;
4. Performance of other related duties as required by the Director of Development & Planning Services.
