As the Cost Accountant, you will work under the direction of the Corporate Controller, and be responsible for cost accounting, variance reconciliation, COGS analysis, inventory control, and document/process controls.

Duties and Responsibilities

The incumbent will undertake any or all of the following:

  • Prepare, analyze and report weekly, monthly, quarterly gross margin analysis by product and customer
  • Assist in month-end closing, analyze COGS, inventory evaluation, inventory roll forward
  • Prepare collateral reporting, prepare journal entries as necessary
  • Coordinate with other departments for system issues, maintenance and development such as production, inventory control, purchasing, import/export, accounts payable, accounts receivable, receiving, shipping and other
  • Analyze cost accounting data and assist with cycle count/physical inventories
  • Plan, execute and reconcile year-end inventory counts
  • Maintain internal control documentation and test internal controls
  • Prepare detailed account analysis and reconcile sales, cost and inventory, liability accounts by customer type by division
  • Review and analyze inventory and margin reports, conduct research and perform analytical studies in regards to cost analyses and profitability
  • Work in special projects as required
  • Support and assist internal department reporting requirements such as audit schedules, tax schedules and others
  • Ensure timely submission, accuracy and validity of inventory, gross margin schedules to management
  • Maintain average costs for all product categories
  • Analyzing, interpreting and investigating purchase prices, production and labor variances
  • Summarize manufacturing costs and absorption, including the calculation of absorption rates
  • Prepare working paper for auditing annual physical counts, procedures, processes and accuracy

Qualifications:

  • A degree in Accounting/Finance
  • Five (5) years’ experience as a Cost Accountant in a manufacturing company
  • Ability to apply knowledge of GAAP and Cost Accounting Standards
  • Able to adapt to new and different computer programs and software to enable efficient data gathering and analysis
  • Ability to research, compile, analyze and interpret data
  • Good verbal communication and collaborative skills
  • Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to analyze and reconcile complex accounts and reserves
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong command of the English language, both spoken and written
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision
  • Strong team player
