Mental Health RN

This position will provide crisis intervention, evaluation/assessment, and information and referral services for individuals experiencing emotional or personal crisis, upon interaction with Durham Regional Police Services (DRPS), including initiating follow-up for Emotional Disturbed Persons (EDP) reports. This posting is open to both female and male applicants. Please see job description for further details.

Minimum Education and Experience:
*Must be a registered nurse we cannot consider applicants who are RPNs
*Current registration with the Ontario College of Nurses in good standing
*Minimum five (5) years related mental health experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
*Membership with the Ontario College of Nurses’ Association.
*Current First Aid/CPR certification.
*Valid Ontario Driver’s license, access to a dependable vehicle in safe working order, and appropriate insurance coverage.

Knowledge:
*Knowledge of major mental illnesses including; signs/symptoms, medication management etc.
*Sound knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act, Community Treatment Orders and other related legislation in Ontario.
*Sound knowledge of psychotropic medications including usage and potential side effects.

Skills and Abilities:
*Work cooperatively as a member of the MCIT unit and collaboratively with the Crisis Services team.
*Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of services provided.
*Ability to make accurate nursing assessments and implement best practices.
*Work in partnership with DRPS responding to calls for service for individuals and their families identified by DRPS as needing emotional or mental health assistance.
*Exchanges and/or transfers nursing knowledge on evidenced-based nursing practices with, or to team members in order to assist in the physical health needs of clients.
*Evaluate DRPS EDP reports and initiate follow-up based on an evaluation of the situation, input from DPRS, and taking into consideration safety and risk factors.
*Assist the client and their families in linking to needed community and natural resources.
*Develop discharge plans which include relapse prevention strategies.
*Complete all necessary DMHS and DRPS documentation and reports. Compile statistics.
*Demonstrated reliability, punctuality and attendance.
*Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
*Professional, positive attitude.

Salary - $66,000 annually + Group Benefits
