Community Development/Tourism Coordinator
Commencing May 2014

Reporting directly to the Director of Community Services, the Community Development/Tourism Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing tourism and community economic development activities and initiatives, in order to advance the goals of the Tourism Strategy as determined by Town Council.
The Employee will develop and enhance partnerships with community associations and businesses; assisting community groups to build capacity in order to develop events and services relating to tourism and recreation within the Town of High Level.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND TRAINING
The minimum level of education required to perform these duties are;
 Completion of Grade 12 Diploma; and
 Degree or Diploma in a related field i.e. Tourism, Economic Development

The minimum experience required to perform these duties are;
 Two (2) to Five (5) years supervisory/management experience within a similar environment of community & tourism development
 Effective written and oral communication skills,
 Ability to facilitate partnerships to create effective advertising campaigns and joint endeavours in an effort to increase awareness of amenities and tourism opportunities in the community
 Ability to deal with the public in a courteous, diplomatic and tactful manner, facilitating the public consultation process
 Experience in event planning, delivery & evaluation

JOB DESCRIPTION
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT/TOURISM COORDINATOR

Reporting directly to the Director of Community Services, the Community Development/Tourism Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing tourism and community economic development activities and initiatives, in order to advance the goals of the Tourism Strategy.
The Employee will develop and enhance partnerships with community associations; assisting community groups to build capacity in order to develop events and services relating to tourism and recreation within the Town of High Level.
The Employee may be required on an ongoing basis to attend applicable training, workshops, seminars and courses at the discretion of the Employer in order to facilitate job knowledge and performance

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Create, nurture, pursue and maintain rapport and positive working relationship with Tourism Partners, community groups, sports organizations, the business community, and other interested parties to promote community programs, activities and events.
2. Advance the goals identified by the Tourism Strategy
3. Support the growth and development of established not-for-profit group events that operate with volunteers, by acting as a liaison when requested
4. Create awareness for volunteer opportunities, programs and events for High Level residents through advertising and social media
5. Assist with the planning, and grant funding applications, for regional/provincial events that further Tourism development
6. Promote and administer the Town of High Level Tourism Grant program
7. Expand awareness of TOHL sponsored events to attract regional/provincial participation
8. Collaborate with Tourism Partners to develop and promote opportunities for cross promotion or packaging of events and services, i.e. Golf and Stay packages (golf course/hotels)
9. Identify collaborative opportunities for joint fundraising events by community groups
10. In cooperation with the Director of Community Services, prepare recommendations for the annual budget process to utilize the Tourism Levy funds
11. Actively participate in and adhere to the Workplace Health & Safety Program as per the THL Health & Safety Policy 218-07 and associated Administrative Directives, in order to maintain a safe & healthy workplace.
12. Facilitate team development and interaction within the department of Community Services, assisting Community Services supervisors with the development and scheduling of programs and tourism events.

ENVIRONMENT
Features of work which create unusual demands of the Community Development/Tourism Coordinator or which create physical and/or mental stress are;
 Considerable pressure may be exerted on the Community Development/Tourism Coordinator to ensure work is completed, to meet deadlines of a wide variety of activities, projects and tasks
 Flexible work schedule, evenings and weekends
 Conflicting demands may be exerted by the Public and community groups and/or organizations
 Requires discretion in all matters.
