Plan and implement daily activities for children in conjunction with the program staff.
Observe and monitor children during social interactions and play activities.
Assist in preparing healthy snacks for the children and serve with appropriate refreshments.
Ensure toys and play equipment are safe and clean
May assist in orientating new children and families; providing on-going feedback on child’s development and behavior.
Engage parents to assist with child behavioural concerns.
Maintains and promotes a positive image of The Salvation Army through providing a high caliber of professional service and by dealing with staff, the public and professionals in a courteous and professional manner.
QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will:
Have completed High School, plus specialized courses of up to six months.
Have completed a Babysitters course.
Pass a Police Security Clearance Check &Child Intervention Check at candidate’s expense.
Possess current First Aid/CPR equivalent to St. John’s Standard First Aid/Level C CPR
Demonstrate effective problem solving, decision making, critical thinking skills.
Able to multi-task, set priorities and function under pressure.
Be willing to support the Mission and Core Values of the Salvation Army, as well as work in a compassionate and non-judgmental manner.
Candidates with a Social Work education are required to be registered with the ACSW.
GRADE: Regular Part Time – 48 hours bi-weekly
