Reporting to the Store Manager, Assistant Store Manager – Specialty Sales, is committed to achieving RONA’s service standards and maximizing sales and gross margin while providing the customers with the best shopping experience possible. The Assistant Store Manager – Specialty Sales oversees, and provides strategic direction to the Contractor Sales and Installs and Design departments to encourage professional relationships with our contractor and installs customers and to foster customer loyalty and growth while maintaining a high level of customer service and unity.


  • Lead by Example and positively influence and motivate leadership and people development
  • Encourage store team to provide excellent customer service to all RONA customers ensuring that they have a unique and consistent customer experience
  • Outline and communicate sales objectives and expectations; share targets with regards to margin, profitability, in stock, expenses, etc.
  • Provide team members with the resources and encouragement to increase sales performance
  • Demonstrate and encourage RONA values by considering them in every store decision made and by ensuring team members are encouraged to do the same
  • Support managers by responding to customer concerns that are out of their scope of decision making; responds in an appropriate manner to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Participate in regular professional development and training
  • Work together with the Store Manager to maximize profitability; work within budgets and control expenses through close monitoring of labour, inventory management, overhead and other store expense
  • Attend local business building association’s meetings as required as well as applicable trade shows, conventions and other events
  • MOD duties including directing store operations in the Store Manager’s absence; opening or closing the store, closing down computer systems, locking and shutting down the building


  • Proven ability to motivate and lead the team in a culture of sales and service
  • Provide exceptional customer service by inspiring and motivating others
  • High energy level that is demonstrated on the sales floor while monitoring and providing direction and leadership for others
  • Retail management and sales experience in the Hardware, Lumber/Building Materials and Renovation industry

  • Basic understanding of finance and budgets; annual business plans, sales, margins, expenses, budget control, P&L statements
  • Overall knowledge of the business’ strategic position in their market
