Job Overview
Reporting to the Service Manager, the Apprentice Technician maintains, repairs and overhauls heavy vehicles and industrial heavy equipment. The work is most rewarding for those who enjoy achieving expertise with precise work, problem solving and working with their hands.

Job Description Details

  • Maintenance and repaired of equipment
  • Interpret work orders and technical manuals
  • Keep equipment cleaned, lubricated and maintained
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions
  • Adjust equipment, and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance and ensure that the work done meets manufacturers' specifications and legislated regulations
  • Communicate with supervisor on job expectations prior to every job
  • Communicate all estimated labour times to supervisor in a timely fashion
  • Ensure all aspects of the job are handled to the customer's satisfaction
  • Look for additional repair opportunities on retail jobs and communicate to supervisor
  • Ensure job details are discussed with customers to the customer's level of satisfaction
  • Show flexibility to the customer in completing repair requests
  • If diagnosis time exceeds two hours, seek help through local leadhand, chargehand, service manager or tech center when required
  • Fill-out work order forms for each job and secure customer signatures on all work order forms
  • Complete all necessary warranty paperwork as instructed by the warranty administrator
  • In the event of a safety incident, complete all necessary paperwork as laid out in the Leavitt Safety Program
  • Track and follow-up on parts for ongoing jobs, ensure all parts are present before traveling to site
  • On Warranty jobs, ensure parts are returned

Job Skills and Requirements

  • A heavy-duty mechanic apprentice with good knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems
  • General ability to perform repairs on LP systems, diesel systems, reading and repairing hydraulic and electrical schematics and systems
  • Previous Aerial & Lift Truck experience is an asset
  • Strong trouble shooting and computer skills
  • Able to contribute positively as an individual and as a member of a team in a team environment
  • Clear communication, organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to think logically
  • A self starter, a willingness and desire to learn, requiring minimal supervision
  • Good vision, hearing and sense of smell to diagnose problems
  • The strength and stamina required to work with heavy equipment and work in cramped or awkward positions
