REPORTS TO: Section Leader, Reservoir Development Section
The Reservoir Development Section is within the Resources Applications Group of the Applications Branch. The section handles well spacing, commingling, compulsory pooling applications that focus on equity, conservation, and orderly and efficient development.
PURPOSE OF ROLE:
The Reservoir Technologist’s primary role is to conduct effective and timely processing and analysis of oil and gas well spacing applications which deal with the development of oil and gas reservoirs.
Evaluate and conduct analysis of special gas and oil well spacing applications, which are varied in technical nature.
Prepare written recommendations on the appropriate disposition of applications.
Present material in application review meetings.
Communicate with applicants concerning application requirements described in Directive 065: Applications for Oil and Gas Reservoirs.
Assist industry, government and internal departments with understanding of ERCB policy and regulations for a variety of application types.
May assist and mentor junior staff in the technical elements and processing of applications for special gas and oil well spacing.
Respond to communications from industry and the public on well spacing matters.
Minimum 5 years of related industry experience with a Diploma in Petroleum Engineering Technology, or a related degree and a minimum of 3 years of directly related experience.
High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
Well-developed organizational skills.
Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills.
Familiarity with PC based software.
Ability to work within a team environment.
In-depth regulatory knowledge regarding special well spacing and related matters would be an asset.
Working knowledge of GIS software would be an asset.
Please note: To qualify as a Technologist: you must be a member in good standing with ASET or eligible for membership in ASET.
