Worst Job Ever
Cashier (Former Employee), Fort McMurray, ABApril 13, 2015
Cons: Not long enough lunch, no 15 minute breaks
When I first started working at Zellers I thought it was going to be a lot of fun. I had zero training as a floor person and was thrown into being a cashier after just a few hours of training. A typical day for me was dealing with ridiculously long line ups with no help on most days. We were entitled to 2 15 minute breaks and one hour for lunch which no one ever got except for one lady who felt like she was better then everyone else. I was treated like dirt there most of the time and was taken advantage of because I was so nice.

I was looked over for promotions more then once which I don't think was fair. The new manager was a total joke and treated his staff like they were gum stuck to the bottom of his shoe. I'm so glad that I quit there and I'm even more glad that the place went out of business.

Sales Associate/Cashier (Former Employee), Brampton, ONApril 10, 2015
A typical day at work consisted of scanning and bagging off products for customers, stocking shelves and assisting customers when needed. I learned to work in a more fast-paced environment and become more organized. Management was always helpful to assist employees when needed and were friendly. Co-workers always great to be around and helpful as well. The hardest part of the job was maintaining order during rush hours and easiest part of the job was assisting customers and providing excellent service.

customer Service (Former Employee), Toronto, ONApril 6, 2015
Pros: employee discounts
Cons: dealing with anger customers
Working at Zellers I learnt a lot, I learn how to interact with customers, co-works and management. At times it was hard to deal with anger customers but I remain focus and handle them the same way I would want to be handle in their situation. I left Zellers with experience and great friendships.

Working here was fun but I think that the overall morale of staff was low. Upon closing several staff where out of a job and there wasn't much done for employees to aide them in finding a new job.

Merchandise Movers Team (Former Employee), Vancouver, BCMarch 15, 2015
Pros: free christmas parties
Cons: short hours
A typical day at work, is when you have to empty 5 pallets a night, which is just about everytime you come in to work. Again, if you are surrounded by co-workers who are easy to get along with, the day always go by quickly no matter how much load of work that needs to be done.

Pros: great work culture
Cons: was bought out and closed
While Zellers was part of the Hudson's Bay Company, it was a joy to serve customers in a truly Canadian manner which competed easily with WalMart and its American version of retail sales and services. The customer service practices of the stores provided a purely Canadian culture of service and it is missed since it was bought out and dismantled by an American firm.

I worked for three years at Zellers. It was my first job and I worked part time while I was in school. This job was a great starting point as I learned everything about customer service and gained three years of experience in many different areas.

Cashier/Customer Service Representative (Former Employee), Kitchener, ONMarch 4, 2015
Working at Zellers was a great experience as a first job. It gave insight to the working world. Working at Zellers gave me my first taste of retail and merchandising. This allowed me to expand on my people skills and working with others. Working here was a great experience because of my co-workers, which I got along with very well. Some days working would be different from others because I was trained on the customer service desk, so some days I would just being doing cash while others would consist of returns, exchanges, answering the phones, paging and dealing with customer issues. Working the customer service desk also gave me the keys to do voids on other tills. Unfortunately Zellers closed later that year in June and the location I worked at was taken over by Walmart, but my experience there was very rewarding and enjoyed.
