Dawson City, Yukon Territory – known as the Capital and heart of the Klondike, it is best known for the gold rush of 1896 when gold was first discovered in nearby creeks. Once referred to as the “Paris of the North”, it is situated on the banks of the Yukon and Klondike Rivers; it has a rich history, booming tourism industry and an active gold mining industry. Dawson City has a year round population of 1881, as of 2011, with approximately 60,000 visitors per year. Dawson City is accessible by road or air year round and is approximately 535 kilometres north and west of Whitehorse, YT.
The Position – FACILITY ADMINISTRATOR, DAWSON CITY HOSPITAL
Responsible for the supervision of direct client care across the full continuum of health (from health promotion through palliation) through active involvement in the planning, organizing, coordinating, and evaluating of the overall programs as related to clinical and support services within the facility. These include managing human and financial resources, information management and environmental control on a day-to-day basis. The Facility Administrator is responsible for personal professional development, ongoing staff development, and team building. The Facility Administrator provides overall leadership, which includes facilitating the integration of local programs and services, and acting as the point of first contact with/for individuals of the community, and performs other related duties. The hospital is expected to be completed in April 2012.
The Candidate - Qualifications/Toolbox
Baccalaureate or Masters Degree in Nursing; five years nursing experience in an acute care hospital with five to ten years experience in a management position; preferably a Certificate in hospital or health care services administration and/or management, nursing administration or human resource management or equivalent; current registration with the Yukon Registered Nurses Association; Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and current CPR certification.
Skills and Abilities
Good knowledge of health care and hospital systems; thorough knowledge of established practice and procedures of professional nursing care; excellent knowledge of management methods and techniques including human and financial management and staff development; sound knowledge of professional practices and procedures as outlined by Yukon RN Act; knowledge of the organization and management of diagnostic and therapeutic hospital departments; working knowledge of Microsoft office applications i.e. excel, word, outlook; demonstrated ability to plan, organize and manage using critical thinking skills; ability to develop orientation programs, in-service education and training programs; ability to prepare reports, manuals and correspondence; strong ability to prioritize, problem-solve, and make decisions both interdependently and independently; exceptional ability to resolve operating problems and assess staff performance; exemplary leadership skills in a changing environment; excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to lead and work as a member of a multidisciplinary team; excellent supervisory/management skills; good initiative, discretion and judgment; cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity; and commitment to lifelong learning.
This position is part of our Management group with an annual salary of $90,856 to $113,585. Included with the offer will be an attractive benefits packages, pension plan, yearly performance bonus, and relocation allowance.
