fun workplace at convocation
MAIN GATE INFORMATION OFFICER (Former Employee), North York, ONApril 16, 2014
Pros: free lunch
Cons: long hours
its a very fun environment to work at. you see a lot of happy and excited faces and are able to be part of their happiness. A very crucial thing I learnt from this workplace was that even a small little help towards someone can make their day amazing, so its not something to think as not important, everything counts. The management is great, they are – more... nice, helpful and productive. Everything is organized properly and there is always people to help you if you are in need of help. The most enjoyable part of the job would be seeing all the parents that are smiling with joy to see their child graduate and being part of it. – less

Personal Counselling Intern (Current Employee), Counselling and Disability ServicesMarch 27, 2014
Personal Counselling Services (PCS) at York University is a great field placement for social work students. The environment is rich with learning opportunities and supportive supervisors. The client base is diverse with a broad range of issues. The type of therapy is largely client-centred and eclectic with a multidisciplinary team of counsellors, psychotherapists, – more... psychologists, and social workers. – less

-It was a 8-hours job a day
-interacting with new people, especially with graduating families and their friends
-was not an easy job to maintain the place neat and managing the convocation hall, at the end most of their families were very corporate with safety

Teaching Assistant (Former Employee), Toronto, ONJanuary 19, 2014
A great place for research.

I learned some high-dimensional data modeling method.

I met many intelligent professors and students there.

In my group, I met some other graduate student from different universities and we become great friends.

The job is not so easy because you need read paper and write report everyday and keep thinking.

The most enjoyable – more... part is learning new things everyday. – less

Generally, it was satisfying to work here because one is involved, although not directly,in the education of mostly young persons.
Supervisor (Former Employee), Toronto, ONNovember 15, 2013
Pros: good benefits, flexible work hours
Cons: exposal to dangerous fumes (waste chemicals) and radioactive waste
My work involved dealing with other employees in other departments on a daily basis. I developed great communication skills over the years and enjoyed interacting with others employees. I honed my management skills as this came into play on a daily basis. I also interacted with members of the public as I met with couriers, and salespersons from various – more... businesses. The most enjoyable part of the job was actually my interaction with persons from all walks of life e.g. students, professors, salespersons, couriers and of course my coworkers. – less

Dealing with different patron's queries
Student service representative (Current Employee), Toronto, ONNovember 12, 2013
Pros: easy to learn skills with the sirsi system for library
Cons: dealing with rude patrons
The most challenging part is to convince patrons to provide us with the call numbers of the books they are looking for, although they were suppose to provide us with the call numbers to begin with
Flexible time schedule

Student Parking Control Officer Operations
PARKING CONTROL OFFICER (Current Employee), Toronto, ONOctober 23, 2013
Pros: work/study job, long hours
Cons: late hours, part time student job
We are required to report to the briefing room at the beginning of our shifts where we are assigned our respective booths. After that, we are driven to our respective booths and our work day begins. We help patrons when they have difficulty paying at the exit of the garage, answer their parking and event related inquiries, provide patrons with directions – more... and process transactions in our booths. The most enjoyable part of the job is interacting with various age groups and being such an integral part of events on campus. The hardest part of the job is having to stand outside in the winter and manually process transactions when and if the machines beak down. Through this job I have gained more customer service skills and cash handling skills. I have also learned to work in a fast paced environment that requires initiative and quick action. – less

Great learning environment.
Photo Lab Monitor/Technician (Former Employee), 4700 Keele St Toronto, ON M3J 1P3August 6, 2013
Pros: access to studio.
Cons: not enough hours.
My time working as Photo Lab Technician in York University was a great opportunity to learn and gain experience in photography. Assisting students with inquiries regarding lighting or camera equipment. I was also in charge of making sure chemicals for film development were fresh and ready for students to use. I had to keep studio clean and make sure – more... that students were following necessary safety rules. – less

Teaching Assistant
Teaching Assistant - Media Studies Department (Former Employee), Toronto, ONJuly 28, 2013
I loved TAing, and found the experience really fulfilling. Unfortunately, at an institutional level, York University is a wasteland of aggressive political ideology, systemic laziness and grade padding. I wouldn't recommend the faculty of arts or graduate studies to anyone who could conceivably avoid it.

I do not speak for their business and law schools – more... which have good reputations. – less
