Sales Associate /Cashier (seasonal) (Former Employee), tarentum, paMarch 7, 2014
Pros: positive workplace, decent pay
I worked Yankee Candle as a seasonal job. The workplace was very positive and fun. Management was upbeat and liked their jobs. the breaks were adequate for the hours worked and the pay was good for a seasonal job. It was a nice way to get some extra cash around the holidays!

Great small store atmosphere but corporate stinks
SECOND ASSISTANT MANAGER, SALES ASSOCIATE (Former Employee), Milwaukee, WIMarch 1, 2014
Corporate expects A LOT of add on selling and they secret shop and are not satisfied with anything short of perfect. I had a great store manager so she tried to focus on the positives, but corporate just pushed for bigger and bigger sales. It's ALL about selling more while pretending to be all about helping the customer. I loved working with my customers – more... and loved helping them find additional merchandise, but I didn't like feeling the pressure to try to add on 3 or 4 things to their purchase when they are already dropping $30 on a candle! – less

Yankee Candle, The Best place to work in Retail
CSR/Second Assistant Manager (Current Employee), South Portland, MEFebruary 14, 2014
Working at Yankee Candle is by far the best retail, almost minimum wage job I have ever had. I feel this way because I believe in the product that I am selling and that makes my job that much easier.

I have learned in the short time working here that there is a SCIENCE to burning candles. There really is! There definitely is more to it than just wax – more... and a wick and that's what's fascinating.

The most enjoyable part of the job is getting the chance to work with the people I work with. Each and every person at my store brings a light to face and makes working retail absolutely worth it! – less

Assistant Manager (Former Employee), Mesa, AZFebruary 7, 2014
Pros: freindly staff and guests.
Cons: having to fight the lunch crowd at the mall.
I loved working for the Yankee Candle Company. My team members were always helpful, to each other and our guests. Management made it to learn new tasks and procedures. Setting up and re building visual displays was a favorite past time of mine. I would definitely work there again!

Sales Associate (Current Employee), Frankenmuth, MIFebruary 1, 2014
Pros: great benefits, even for part time, great breaks
Cons: short shifts on off season
Yankee is dedicated to providing quality customer service. Managers treat associates with respect, because all workers are important to the store goal. Working with Yankees products is enjoyable, and the customers are just as passionate about the product as the employees are.

Fun work environment
Sales Representative (Former Employee), Mankato, MNJanuary 30, 2014
Pros: in the mall, free candles or discounts
Working around candles is always nice. You and the store always smell amazing. It is fun to relate candles to experiences with the customers and find any item to fit their needs. Sometimes the people you work with can be snobby but that happens almost anywhere. Overall the company is fantastic and fun to work with. It is a great job for a college student – more... if you work plenty of hours. – less

Pros: working with candles
Cons: seasonal employment
Maintaining records of sales and balanced cash draws daily. I learned to Coordinate and arrange merchandise displays.Operate computer cash register. Handled cash, check and charge cards. I didn't care for management. Co-workers were great to work with. hardest part was the training The most enjoyable part was having a job.

Decent place.
Sales Associate (Former Employee), Pottstown, PAJanuary 17, 2014
Pros: small store.
Cons: short breaks, busy mall.
This store taught me most of the things I needed to know about retail, despite having worked it numerous times before. Although I did enjoy my time there, for the most part, I was in disagreement with the management for my particular store. I enjoyed everyone else I worked with.

The best part of the job was the down time with my coworkers.
The hardest – more... part was trying to play two roles. – less

Great productive workplace especially around the holidays!
Seasonal Sales Associate (Former Employee), Syracuse, NYJanuary 6, 2014
Pros: all associates receive a 50% discount on any scented product!
Cons: short breaks
A typical day at work consists of assisting almost every customer, working the cashier, stocking candles, and unloading shipment. It was a fun paced job. During my time there I learned how to build a relationship with regular customers as well as compliment different fragrances with other scents as needed for the customer. The hardest part of the job – more... was trying to help every customer with their specific needs and that was also the enjoyable part of the job as well. When I know what I'm doing at a job I stick with it and it becomes enjoyable to me not just another task. – less

The most pleasant smelling environment to work in.
Seasonal Sales Associate (Former Employee), Liverpool, NYJanuary 3, 2014
Pros: 50% off discount on all fragrances
Yankee Candle had the best training program I have ever had at any job I have worked at. I gained so much valuable information to help me with my job.

Everyone was very pleasant to work with, the guests were easy to communicate with because we all had something in common--our love of Yankee Candles.

The hardest part of the job was when business was – more... slow and there was no clean up, restocking to do. It's very tiring doing nothing while waiting for guests to arrive. – less

Worked here for 9+ years and really like the company. Hardest part is the hours can sometimes be daunting and you don't get to spend quality time with your family.
