A fast paced and fun enviornment
Sales Associate (Current Employee), Pembroke pines, Florida – November 27, 2012
Pros: working in a fun enviornment and interacting with new people, as well as dicounts on candles and getting paid weekly.
Cons: always being called in last minute and staying past twelve sometimes, which is hard for a college student.
A typical day consist of balancing customer service and restocking to make sure customers are able to have what they need. I'm asking open ended questions to be able to get a better feel for what the customer needs and provide more products that meet those needs even further. I learn how to approach people and learn how to work as a team as we all have – more... goals we have to meet by the end of the day. My co-workers are helpful in knowing what to do and when do to it. The most enjoyable part of the job is meeting new people and getting to satasify thier wants and needs. Also meeting our goals and being able to achieve more. The hardest part is trying to do so much on busy days or achieve more on slow ones. Thier is one manager that is very helpful in helping the sales associates and taking on multiple challenges. – less

Everything is based on secret shopper report
Retail Store Manager (Former Employee), Boston, MA – November 5, 2012
Not able to sell product by being yourself and make the guest comfortable. The secret shopper report is very scripted, and makes it very difficult to have a relaxed, fun and profitable enviroment.

Productive and fun workplace filled with candles.
Sales Associate (Current Employee), Sugar Land, TX – October 31, 2012
Pros: really nice coworkers, fun environment
Cons: some customers can be rude
I come in, restock shelves, keep the place neat and clean looking, help customers with their purchases, and ring them up. I also do anything the managers ask me to do.

Assistant Store Manager (Former Employee), Orland Park, IL – October 31, 2012
Days at Yankee were always busy due to high traffic and always receiving shipment. Management was amazing and we got along great and always solved store issues together. The hard thing at Yankee was trying to find the best way to backstock all merchandise in such a small backroom. The best part was getting familiar with the product and being able to – more... always come across happy customers. – less

Dont bother
SALES ASSOCIATE (Former Employee), Pottstown, PA – October 16, 2012
Pros: love the product
They are very unwilling to work with anyone schedules and requires open availability for parttime positions...... give me a break. Salary is a joke. They also insist that you annoy the guest for personal info Even after the customer has declined. Enough already

Assistant Manager (Former Employee), Mays Landing, NJ – October 11, 2012
Pros: it was alot of selling and fast moving
Cons: not enough hours

very customer service oriented and fun to work for.
Store Manager (Former Employee), Murfreesboro, TN – September 26, 2012
Pros: great discounts
Cons: short staffed quite often due to payroll micro management
greet and welcome every customer even if you are busy, take time to make it a personal shopping ecperience, the management is very well educated on all the products that the company offers. the hardest part of the job is having to cut it short with a customer who is wanting your help when you have many other s to help as well. The most enjoyable part – more... is the company itself and the loyal customers to the company. – less

Great smelling work environment in a busy mall
Sales Associate (Former Employee), Phoenix, AZ – September 12, 2012
Pros: creative, lots of people
Cons: no stores located in flagstaff
Yankee Candle let me be very creative. I was in charge of building displays and stocking merchandise. It was a small store but we were usually very busy. I always went home smelling like a candle.

Busy, Productive workplace with good staff
Assistant Manager (Current Employee), Edinburgh, IN – September 10, 2012
Pros: great environment, successful store
Cons: unstable hours, missing out of family
on a typical day open or close we focus on customer service, stocking shelves and running the registers. Managers Open or close the store on rotating shifts and coworkers fill in the day for help with customers and the floor. I really enjoy the environment and my coworkers. However I do not enjoy having unstable hours and missing out on my family.

Management problems
Manager (Former Employee), MA – September 6, 2012
Pros: good ceo
My review is for corporate. CEO is good but execs are unethical. They dump work on good workers while excusing others. This results in good workers and professionals leaving within months. Recently VP of insights, several good workers and brand director left due to excessive pressure and no support. Other good workers are biding time.

People interested – more... in politics and avoiding work should join. People seeking good work and professional growth should be cautious. No good worker has ever lasted beyond 12 months. – less

All around great place to work and grow
Assistant Manager (Current Employee), Westbury, NY – August 26, 2012
Pros: great benefits
Cons: short breaks
Yankee candle is a great company to work for. There's always an opportunity to grow within the company. The employees in my district are so easy to talk to, we're like one big family. The customers are a charm, it's pleases me when they are pleased. The benefits are amazing. Yankee really goes above and beyond for their employees.

A great place for career advancement
Rather not say (Former Employee), Rhode Island – August 24, 2012
Pros: great discounts on those amazing candles! career advancement
Cons: low-average pay
Yankee Candle has some great reasons to work for them-they really like to promote from within and management will go out of their way to groom you for a promotion. Many store managers started as part-time sales associates.

The pay isn't the best and of course part time doesn't offer much benefits but the discounts are good and they have other perks – more... to help counter the pay. It's a wonderful place to start a career and a great job for students and working mothers because of the flexible schedules. – less

Used to be a great place to work
Assistant Manager (Former Employee), Atlanta area – August 21, 2012
Pros: great benefits and discounts
Cons: stress over sales, ads, and secret shopper scores
I was an 11+ year employee and left the company in June of 2012. Since then, my stress level has come way down and I have taken my experience and moved on. I have seen the company go through a lot of changes since 2001, some good, some not so good, but that is the way of the world in any business. Unfortunately, during the last few years the fun atmosphere – more... dwindled, at least at my store anyway. Being a sales associate is fine, but being in management is not rewarding at times. The slaps on the back and "job well done" remarks are far and few between. Many a time, the right hand didn't know what the left hand was doing, and this could eat up valuable work time. The product is still good, except for a few items. Actually, the founder of YC(who is no longer associated with the company), has a son who started a new company not far from YC in South Deerfield, MA, called Kringle Candle and in researching it, it seems that he has kept the same wonderful quality of the candles that he has been known to create. – less

No Balance Between Work and Home Life
Store Manager (Former Employee), Gainesville – August 15, 2012
Pros: discount, quality product
Cons: dm is a micromanager, phantom "secret" shop criterial is riduculous, disconnect between corp and stores
I notice that mostly part-time employees give the best ratings while full-time Managers give the lowest. I can say if you are a Store Manager you will have no life outside of work. You are expected to work as many as hours is required and understand no additional payroll hours are given for floorsets, heavy shipment etc so you will work alot. There – more... is a huge disconnect between corporate divisions often making last minute or confusing changes to the business. Product if often late for floorsets. Be prepared for high pressure sales goals and the year end review is heavily based on sales so if you don't make the numbers you fail your review and get no raise - no matter how well you run other aspects of the business or how hard you work. – less
