SCOPE
The Field QHSE Advisor role is based out of the Calgary, Canada office, and reports to the HSE Manager – US Drilling and indirectly reports to the General Manager – Northern Division. This is a fulltime position with on-call hours.

The HSE Superintendent works closely with the General and Operations Managers of the Northern Division providing support to build HSE awareness at the field level and ensure compliance in the Canadian portion of the division.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Conduct Rig QHSE audits and yard audits; track findings by logging them into the company’s corrective action tracking system;
  • Communicate safety standards to field employees to ensure compliance with company, legislative, and industry standards;
  • Assist Rig Managers to ensure all workers understand their roles with respect to health and safety, training, accident prevention and hazard identification/control;
  • Act as the focal point for post-incident management including preparation and submittal of incident investigation reports and corrective action follow up, using critical thinking to determine the root cause;
  • Champion the use of Xtreme’s hazard identification program in your area, ensure employees understand and are using the program. Follow up with Rig Manager weekly to ensure issues are being addressed;
  • Perform on-going rig visits traveling extensively to various field locations, ensuring 75% of time is spent in the field;
  • Lead on-site training programs designed to motivate field personnel, and to promote new systems or processes as they arise;
  • Coordinating and participating in continuous follow-up of HSE management systems in the field;
  • Work with operations and employees to manage our modified work program;
  • Participate in on-call duties, offering incident management and support;
  • Respond to incidents, coordinating and conducting investigations then presenting formal reports with management recommendations;
  • Act as HSE resource to our field and operational employees;
  • Promote all HSE related systems and processes
  • Facilitate and manage third party audit process, champion adjustments required;
  • Remain current and knowledgeable of OH & S and other Health & Safety regulations in the provinces in which we operate;
  • Report to QHSE Manager on a weekly basis, but also as pressing situations arise.

PREFERRED SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 diploma;
  • Holds or is working towards Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation
  • Certification in H2S Alive, First Aid, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, WHMIS, Rig Rescue, Fall Protection and Confined Space Entry;
  • Minimum 3 years HSE experience, with an excellent safety record;
  • Must possess valid drivers’ license, be eligible to drive a company vehicle and produce a clean driver’s abstract;
  • Experience with drilling and/or energy service companies and equipment;
  • Have a working knowledge in MS Word and Excel in order to prepare reports;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally;
  • Ability to handle confidential information in an ethical manner;
  • Must be able to work unconventional hours on occasion;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Ability to travel to remote well drilling sites, and;
  • Demonstrable commitment to HSE professional practices, procedures and regulations
