Key Result # 1 – GIS database management system setup and support for country offices

  • Carry out the analysis of data for mapping risk patterns, including:
  • 1) Structuring of vulnerability model
  • 2) Interpretation of regression
  • 3) Generation of vulnerability maps and outcome maps
  • Support project managers in visualizing data spatially for decision support and reporting on evolution of projects
  • Generate report detailing the results of analysis
  • Manage and create tools for mobile data collection
  • Create and manage group on ArcGIS online
  • Support development of quality assurance workflows
  • Build capacity of field staff on GIS and geo-referenced data collection methods (as required)

Required Qualifications or skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Cartography, Geography and/or related fields
  • Thorough understanding of GIS, with a focus on applications in multivariate decision support and model building
  • Basic knowledge of geospatial statistics, in particular, inferential and multivariate statistics
  • Good problem solving skills, with the ability to creatively approach issues
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Good writing skills, with the ability to successfully communicate analysis results
  • Proven ability to demonstrate initiative, resourcefulness and perseverance
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to verbally communicate complex ideas to project managers
  • Excellent computer skills, with experience using the following software:
  • 1) ArcMap
  • 2) ArcCatalog
  • 3) Excel
  • 4) Microsoft Word

Optional Qualifications or skills:

  • Knowledge of remote sensing software
  • Knowledge of relational database management systems (RDMS) and spatial databases, in particular, relating to applications in ArcGIS
  • Knowledge of computer programming, with the ability to customize applications based on the needs of project managers
  • Experience in mobile data collection (e.g. ODK or iForm Builder)
  • Candidates who have experience with the following software/skills will be given priority:
  • 1) SPSS
  • 2) ArcGIS for Server
  • 3) SQL Server
  • 4) ArcGIS API
  • 5) ArcGIS Online
  • 6) Javascript
  • 7) .NET
