The Women’s Interval Home of Sarnia-Lambton Inc. is a non-profit, charitable organization providing emergency shelter, support, counselling, advocacy, and referral services to abused women and their children in Lambton County. The Women’s Interval Home is currently recruiting for an Executive Director.
This challenging opportunity is available for a dynamic Executive Director with the desire to lead, learn, and partner within the community. The Executive Director is accountable to the Board of Directors for the development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of the shelter, its residential facility and staff, programs, and services. The successful candidate will possess extensive knowledge of the issue of violence against women and children in society. She must be able to work independently, with superior problem solving skills, while at all times using sound judgment. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required, along with the ability to provide effective supervision. The ability to work collaboratively in a multi-faceted environment is a definite requirement. A demonstrated ability to implement board decisions is a must.
Candidate Skills and Requirements:
*A broad knowledge of women's issues and an ability to work in an empowering and gender sensitive manner.
*Counselling, crisis intervention, advocacy skills and knowledge of women abuse issues
*Proven experience liaising with funders, including Provincial Ministries and Foundations
*Strong fiscal abilities to participate in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and internal controls required to ensure the smooth running of the shelter and programs.
*Strong oral and written communication skills as the Executive Director is require to raise community awareness of violence against women and children through public presentations to community groups; and acts as the spokesperson for the shelter to the public.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience counselling survivors of violence, as well as administrative and supervisory experience.
- Familiarity and expertise working with government service agencies and other community groups.
- Current criminal reference check.
- Willingness to be flexible with work hours, including on-call.
- Must have own vehicle and valid driver’s license.
- Salary to commensurate with experience.
