Summary of Position
This is a full-time intermediate/senior Legal Assistant position providing legal and administrative support.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: handling a wide variety of administrative duties including word processing, drafting correspondence and documents, dictation, filing, office and file organization, preparation of accounts, coordinating and scheduling meetings and maintaining calendars. The successful candidate will play a role in the organization of a senior lawyer’s busy practice and work closely with the lawyer on document preparation, document management, file management and day-to-day administrative duties.
The successful candidate will have a Legal Secretarial Diploma, a minimum of five years’ experience in family law and strong administrative, organizational and interpersonal skills. We require a detail-oriented individual who is comfortable meeting deadlines, who has excellent Microsoft Word skills (i.e. familiarity with charts, automatic paragraph numbering and tables) and Outlook skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel is required. In addition, this position requires someone who is motivated, flexible, capable of working with minimal supervision, assumes responsibility and is highly organized.
The successful candidate should be highly proactive with practice management. Excellent attention to detail is a must. The successful candidate must have superb communication skills (both written and oral) as well as the ability to interact effectively with clients and colleagues at all levels. The successful candidate must possess the ability to take initiative. The ability to deal effectively, discreetly and sensitively with clients on a daily basis is a must. Good judgment and independent decision-making skills are required to manage this practice.
